I saw a map, that pipeline isn't even ON the Standing Rock Reservation.

"There is no question it will be much more difficult and costly for these projects to move forward in the future," Brian Jorde, a Nebraska lawyer who worked with Keystone XL opponents, told the AP.

" That would leave them competing for scarce pipeline space, raising costs and forcing them to discount their crude, or shipping crude by rail, a costlier alternative..."

Buffet wins again.

FH, do you recall if that was Buffet oil tank car accident in your area a while back that wrecked and spilled or burned? and what of other such incidents across the country. I think there was one in s.e. SD in the past year or so, another in n.e. MT or n.w. ND and another in an eastern state.

It would be interesting to know just how many and how serious 'spills' of oil or fuel being transported above ground in the past, and contrast that with modern pipeline along with gallons lost versus gallons moved.

Then there is the matter of the 'pollution' caused by the protesters at their protest sites. Not to mention the self-induced pollution on their home territory!!! There was a photo in RC Journal recently of kids playing in a river at or near the protest site, and that water sure didn't look very 'pristine' and likely was less so with those little kids in it after a few hours.

Maybe we could take them more seriously if they refused to use oil and the benefits it provides for us.

Aside from the jobs and related benefits of building new pipelines, there is the improved speed of transport of the crude oil to refinement facilities, and the increased income to the companies involved will lead to more improvement of aging facilities and pipelines. Those people fighting such improvements seem terribly short-sighted, even selfishly foolish, imo. Sure, there are inconveniences and as with any endeavor in life, there will probably even be accidents and various problems. But, do we stop all activities because there might be detriments along the way? Life just doesn't work that way. We do our best to anticipate and minimize problems while going on with life and commerce.

Berkshire Hathaway has infrastructure plays all over the bakken - like that loading yard north of fariview mt. Business used to be about building a better mousetrap, not garnering government favor.

"USED TO" being the key words. Things have certainly changed.

BN laid off train workers at Forsyth, Mt this past winter/spring.

Yes, mrj, I remember that train derailment in our area, along with many others..........

Maybe Buffet had to put the squeeze on Obama because his trains aren't moving much coal out of Gillette with the slow
down of coal mining in that area. :???:

BN ran right through our place and the thought was that line might be abandoned, and nothing was done to keep it in good repair.
Then Buffet bought it and right away the track was repaired for miles and miles. That was a first for a LONG, LONG time.

Thanks FH. Wasn't sure my memory was right on that one. Good to hear they are fixing up the track. We don't make enough use of rr's, imo. And the way they have cut coal in WY is pretty scarey, too. Sure less trains running to the south and south east out of there when we travelled some there last summer. Seems more efficient than hiways and helps those last longer for vehicle traffic with less heavy hauling there. Wish they would move more that way, especially some of those obviously extreme heavy loads that look like parts for wind power towers that we have seen on I-90 across SD this year. Maybe they have increased the number of wheels required under those trucks, but I notice we still have lots of hiway repairs going on!
