REPORT: US HASN'T SEEN EXPECTED 'GREAT RECOVERY'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An economic forecast says the country's expected "Great Recovery" hasn't materialized and the economy's fallen short of even normal growth.

The Los Angeles Times ( HTTP://LAT.MS/13ESJJ3 ) reports the gloomy picture appears in the quarterly UCLA Anderson Forecast released Wednesday.

It says that real gross domestic product growth - the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services produced - is well below the 3-percent growth trend of past recoveries. The forecast says the country isn't creating enough good jobs.

Meanwhile, Treasury will lose $10 BILLION on the General Motors bailout. That equals TEN THOUSAND MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could we get a defense of the "Buckwheat Bust" here?

Mike, none of the good folks here are rural enough to understand what TEN THOUSAND MILLION DOLLARS is.

Only Dickie the Drunk is rural enough to understand, and for some reason he has decided to STFU.

I will never buy another GM vehicle in my life, and let's not even start on Chrysler/Doodge........

if they had put more towards infrastructure.. we could have seen some results..

but even the infrastructure money is getting squandered,

our town was given money to pave a road.. and then they cut up the road for free sewers and repaving..

and now that they are getting more money, they are putting in new gas mains..

and will need to repave again... this same road has had the sidewalks done at least a half dozen times in the last four years.. (I guess concrete just doesn't last like it used to).. :? :???:

oh and we are getting a new over pass on a major highway.. actually three new over passes..

we have one at mile marker six.. and 17 and will get new ones at mile marker 8, 10 and 13...

this same road has another highway that parallels it.. and a nice wide street on the other side.. interrupted by marsh/wetlands..

they claim they can't disturb the wetlands... yet,... the overpasses will take up twice as much marshland as the road would have.. and cost a thousand times more..

so in 11 miles we will have 5 over-passes.. with a whole two miles in between each one.. ain't city life grand... (oops almost forgot we are a rural county)

thanks Mr fed man for the waste... :? we is sure glad you finally got enough money to waste some down this way..

And it's not just the Federal Government that is being run by idiots. Our County Commission, in collaboration with the County School Board, is trying to convince the citizens that we need to spend $45 million to build a new high school next to the existing school.

The existing school is about 40 years old. They have neglected maintenance on the school so now the roof leaks, the ceiling tiles are falling down, the A/C units need to be updated, etc.

So, if that $45 million dollars had been apportioned over the past 40 years, that means that the school could have spent more than $1 million PER YEAR on maintenance. It would be impossible to do that, but if they had done that, the 40 year old building would be as good as, or better than new.

So, why should the citizens entrust a new building into the hands of the same morons who haven't taken care of the old building?

Governments don't work, at any level.
