Here is a group of steer calves that we recently got results on. These were fed at Samson-Inc Feedlot in NE. These were all from 1 customer and they were straight Red Angus. They have been buying good big bulls from us as long as I can remember. They were back ground for about 60 days before we got them.

Amount: 98 Head
ADG: 3.508lbs
In Weight: 757lbs
Pay Weight: 1408lbs
COG: $41.93
Dressing: 64.51%
Prime: 4.08%
Choice: 81.63%
Sterling Silver: 5.10%
Select: 14.29%
Other: 0%
We did not have any any yield grade 4 or higher.

Ya. these were actully harvested a year ago. I requested all of the results from last year, and I was just studying and going over them again. These are March and April calves, and were killed in June.

I really don't know. They never gave us that info. I will do some prodding around and see if they can come up with it. But with the bulls that we are using, and the yield being over 64%. I am betting they were pretty good sized.

I would guess the rib eye was a good size too, based on the lower percentage of Sterling Silver.

That program has a top end size of about 12 inches. Lots of good cattle just above that point.

Good numbers BRG.

I've never heard of a top end size for a REA, except for Nolan Ryan 16.5.

The usda doesn't have a ribeye area listing for ribeye size in the Sterling Silver in the specs?

Check out Cargill's page...I heard about the limit from a carcass show in Alberta. Never seen the actual specs, just a recap of them from the show info.

Good data BRG...

Two other possible reasons for the lower percentage of Sterling Silver as compared to the percentage of Choice is that Sterling Silver requires minimum of Modest marbling (average CH or higher) and the cattle may have graded out at low choice. The other is that maybe the some of the cattle were sold at plant that does cover SS.

Cheers---
