RM, Not trying to "explain anything away".... it was one of your 'southern' upscale farm raised girls who introduced the term to me and I believed it to be a local term equivalent to "hired man", or, because women sometimes also choose to do the work, "hired hand", used in this area.
Not sure which of your questions I haven't yet answered. Just getting on here quickly from time to time. Even the person who doesn't get outdoors much has been extra busy while the guys are coping with the storm and aftermath along with getting very much into the calving recently.
