Registered appaloosa w/o papers

How would I go about getting information about an appaloosa my mom bought me as a present, I'm kinda a beginner. The seller wouldn't give me the papers so I wouldn't sell him. His registered name is Notable Act. My vet thinks he's some how out of One Tuff Act, just because he's really hot, and in a way unpredictable.

If you are a member of the Appaloosa Association you could contact them with the Registered name and they could get you the pedigree...don't know how you'd go about gettin papers tho, without the seller givin em to you.

I too bought a "registered" app a few years ago. I traced down the owner thru the name on the coggins and he offered to sell me the papers for $100, I'd only spent $375 on the horse at the auction. I told him no thank you, ya can't ride papers and he's a geldin anyway.

A horse came into the horse sale the other day. The gal riding it in handed the auctioneer a piece of paper with the horse's "lineage" all hand-written. The auctioneer reads it, "This horse goes back to Penny, Biscuit, Princess, Vinegar, Josie, Elmer, Red, and Sugar." He then said, "Whooeee" and started the auction. The bonafide pedigreed grade mare brought a whopping $310. :) I thought it was kind of funny.

So...apparently there is no previous data entered under his lineage.
Appears the same is true for the Notable Act horse.

From what I can gather on that website, you enter your own horses information if it's not there. That's not what most people are after if they are goin to that website.

thanx for the help. I wish my mom only paid $375 for the damn thing he's the hottest horse I've ever ridden, and he definately wasn't worth the $1300 dollars the guy suckered out of her, he wanted $2500 with his papers. I like my $400 dollar QH a whole lot more, he came from out west and is totally bomb proof. I wish I could get another one just like him.

I've got one like that, but he'd cost a lot more than $400.

ain't no such thing as a "Bombproof" horse....that's city talk !!!
If the previous owner is a member of the ApHC, a complaint can be filed against him. Most breed associations don't condone the sale of a registered horse with a higher price for papers.
Even if you are sure of the sires name you might have to get a DNA test done and that will only do you good IF the stallion is on record
