Mike, remind me NOT to eat greens at your house!!!

What's wrong? You don't eat Organic greens?

Remind me not even to stop by your house until it rains. 70 deg weather and those heifers processing those collards. I would not want to be down wind.

Whatever you do...don't lite a match!!!

Well, first of all, you'll NEVER find animal protein products anywhere close to a bag of Vigortone...

Who in the world would be using ANIMAL PROTEIN PRODUCTS in this day and age??????????? What kind of animal? Very Scary!!

Besides that, you have no idea what they are using for Protein in this feed. Could be chicken feathers...makes the protein higher but can't be broken down easily by the cow.

Thanks, Myfarmgirl. I'd have some concerns if I were you...

Personal Opinion-- I would never feed 32% protein to any replacement heifer....If they can't survive, grow out, and flourish with a lot less than that- then there is a need in the change of genetics  ...

Much of this "bigger, better, faster," - "my 700 lb calves weigh more than yours do"- came about because of all kind of added protein/supplements and COST- which ends up making you much less profit than you were getting before....

All depends on each persons individual situation.....

Yeah, we were just looking at the tag and dad's eyes hit his hairline. We are try that Forage Pro now that we know what in the other stuff. We had just taken for granted that the stuff was okay. I am ashamed to say that we didn't realize what we were feeding. Plz don't think that we aren't careful, but we jsut figured that there wouldn't be animal products in there. Thanks you guys.

Can I get some more info on this Forage Pro 22%. We are seriously thinking on switching, as soon as we get the info we will change.

That's what we are here for. We just cannot be too careful...I can remember when I never read a feed tag; but I sure read them now.

I was checking the feed tags on some Purina Dog Food--chicken digest was part of the dog food--YUK!!!

I'm just happy you found out what you were buying...too many feed stores sell on "PRICE"...not quality.

OT, you wouldn't feed a 32% protein supplement, but I want to remind everyone that 32% by itself doesn't mean much. 32% of one pound would be less than .3 of protein on a dry matter basis. Now 32% of 30 pounds would be 9.6 lbs of protein.

So many times that statement is made, without finishing the math...

I think 32% or 22% doesn't mean much until you know how many pounds is being fed.

Protein from a good protein SOURCE is the key...FWIW.

I can't find it now, but someone on another board posted a bag tag from (I think but not positive) Nutrena. And it contained animal fat in it's bag tag info. I looked at Nutrena's website, and they don't have posted the list of ingredients for thier products online. It says, "Refer to bag tag for more information".

Needless to say I was shocked also that there was animal fat in it, and here we go again.....do these companies not learn?
