Meanwhile Libya’s deputy foreign minister told E.U. ambassadors in Tripoli al-Qaeda has set up an Islamic emirate in Derna, in eastern Libya, headed by a former U.S. prisoner at Guantanamo Bay,

However, residents in the city have told reporters there is no substance to these rumors, which they claim the Libyan government is sowing to "scare Europe."

"Al-Qaeda has established an emirate in Derna led by Abdelkarim al-Hasadi, a former Guantanamo detainee," Khaled Khaim said.

"They have an FM radio station and have begun to impose the burqa" (head-to-toe covering for women) and have "executed people who refuse to cooperate with them."

Khaim said Hasadi has a lieutenant, "also a member of al-Qaeda and named Kheirallah Baraassi" in al-Baida.

Derna is the capital of a province by the same name in the region of Cyrenaica, some 1,250 kilometers (775 miles) east of Libya's capital Tripoli. Al-Baida lies about 100 kilometers west of Derna.

Earlier, Italian Foreign Minister Francesco Franco Frattini said embattled Libyan leader Gaddafi had lost control of Cyrenaica and shared reports that an Islamic emirate had been declared there.

Speaking at a meeting in Rome organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio, a Christian organisation, Frattini said here had been recent proclamations in Cyrenaica that it was now an Islamic emirate and calls to break with the West.

"It is a worrying development if radical Islam is only a few hundred kilometers away from the European Union's front door, but nothing can justify the violent death of hundreds of innocent civilians," he added.

If the Monarchs fell, it would possibly be the worst scenario

Saudi Arabia and Jordan

Turkey can almost be added to your list too. they have been moving towards being an Islamic state for the last couple of years

if the saudi's fall, it will be to late to prepare,

we just filled the diesel tanks and I have all the gas tanks filled with premium and treated, but even a few hundred gallons will not last long,

I guess with our lack of leadership, we will have to wait and watch the world sink.. hopefully it doesn't drag US down with it..

The US could still buy more of our "dirty" oil, but you better hurry, it's going fast.

We've recently signed agreements with China and some other eastern Countries. India will be the next.

Saudi Arabia is drafting in up to 10,000 security forces to the north eastern Muslim Shia provinces ahead of mass protests planned next week.

Desperate to avoid mass uprisings against the House of Saud, security forces have deployed in huge numbers across the region.

King Abdullah is also reported to have told neighbouring Bahrain that if they do not put down their own ongoing Shia revolt, his own forces will.

in a gutsy move, meant to show bravery among the protesters.

In response to the massive mobilisation, protesters are planning to place women on the front ranks to discourage Saudi forces from firing on them.

while I do not condone firing on protesters, I also feel the actions of the organizers to use woman as a shield is deplorable..

over the next week expect this man to be talked about in reference to Saudi uprisings.

Meanwhile, small protests continued in the oil-rich Eastern Province towns of al-Ahsa and Qateef, with demonstrators demanding the release of political prisoners.

In Riyadh, security helicopters hovered over protesters gathered in front of Al-Rajhi mosque, in the east of the capital, in what an unknown opposition group described as a “Friday of mobilisation”.

Meanwhile, in a YouTube internet video seen by the Financial Times, a man carried a banner that said “Youth of March 4”. The video claimed that 2,000 people took part in the rally, later dispersed by police. Others said there were merely dozens of protesters. It was not possible to verify either estimate.

It is not clear who was behind the protests, or who the “Youth of March 4” are, though they are apparently inspired by Egypt’s “Youth of April 6”.

Pro-democracy activist Mohamed Fahd al-Qahtani said at least half of those who led the protests support the London-based Islamist opposition Saad al-Faqih. Others, he said, are frustrated citizens with no affiliation.

despite what may be presented to US as his background..
Al-Faqih's organisation opposes the current sociopolitical and religious policy of Saudi Arabia. Although campaigning for religious reform, he prefers not to be referred to as a Wahabbist. He maintains that Islam advocates separation of powers, freedom of expression, transparency and women's rights in contrast to what he maintains is the current Saudi policy. He is also an anti-royalist, asserting the Saudi government has lost its religious legitimacy.

the part the left leaning media may forget to mention
In December 2004 the US Treasury accused al-Faqih of being affiliated toAl Qaeda, and alleges he has maintained relations to the group since 1998.[4][5] Two days later, the names of al-Faqih and MIRA were added to the UN 1267 Committee's list of individuals and entities belonging to or associated with al-Qaeda.[6] The Treasury statement mentions al-Faqih's past affiliation with Osama bin Laden, Khalid al-Fawwaz, Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, and an obscure al-Qaeda ideologue who writes, or used to write, under the name Lewis Attiyatullah. Dr Sa'ad Al-Faqih asserts that authorities such as the United States government wish to vilify him because they are allies with the current Saudi regime which he opposes and denies all allegations.

BBC five reported a claim that in 1996 Dr Saad Al Faqih purchased an Exact-M 22 satellite phone for Osama bin Laden, an allegation which has not even been investigated, nor has he been charged by any court in the world.[7] Al-Faqeeh confirms that he and MIRA are "totally committed to peaceful agenda.".

a bit scary. but only time will tell now..

today's gas prices.. still climbing..
