Republican Double Standard?

Keep Your Affairs in Order

Former presidential candidate John Edwards today admitted to having an affair in 2006.

From the Chicago Tribune:

John Edwards’ revelations today - that he had an affair while his wife battled cancer - break sharply from the family-man image the former senator has cultivated his entire political career. They also crystallize many detractors’ long-held worries about Edwards’ sincerity and authenticity.

From ABC News:

Edwards Admits Sexual Affair; Lied as Presidential Candidate

From the New York Times:

Ken Doll in Lust

Fair enough. But one of our current presidential candidates cheated repeatedly on his injured wife, and then lied about it. Why isn’t this crystalizing worries about McCain’s sincerity and authenticity?

“I don’t know if you noticed this. Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi turned the lights out on Congress while the Republicans were talking. She killed the microphones and turned the lights off. Yeah, yeah. The Republicans called this outrageous, except, of course, for Senator Larry Craig, who called it romantic.” -Jay Leno

Come on how you guys cut Edwards some slack.
I don't think he had an affair. I think he was telling the truth all along. He only started lying now to make people think he had an affair. I guess we will never know for sure which statement was a lie and which was the truth. We could ask him, but he might lie to us. Or he might tell the truth.

Yep kind of hard to trust a person that has a nasty affair and lies about it ain't it ?

Especially one that leaves his wife and kids because the wife no longer has the model looks she had and is now short, fat, and crippled because of an auto accident- and then runs off with a more than 20 year old younger blonde rich cheeleader bimbo heiress, (who she and her daddy's money can more advance his political aspirations) and not only lie about it, but even continue lying about it years later when they write their book .... :( :(

Yep- I agree- Very hard to trust those type of folks...

Thats what I love about you cultist folks- have the highest of morals and values until its one of your own- than all you got is excuses- and all those high faluting values go out the door    :( :(

Whatever happened to the for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer?...Just because he finds a richer one doesn't mean he's supposed to flop into the sack with her... :(

Pretty well shows me that if an oath given to your wife in front of God is no good- how serious can you expect him to take his oath given to the people to protect and defend the Constitution....

We already know Bush didn't take it serious- and McSame is just a Bush #3- only in an older grumpier grey haired wrinkled model....

Listen here pea brain(call me cultist and I will call you names)

So how many times did you get your ass beat in the last 1966 days. Like I said if you get your but beat for 1966 days then you come to me and preach all you want about morals.
Your answer is the utmost lack of respect for someone in the military who was fight for his country. Any man that has the audacity to condemn a military man after McCain served for you has to bethe lowest life form. You scumbag

Is old McSame still a prisoner :???: Must be- its been this long since he last visited Montana- and then it was to campaign for his buddy- Abramoff scandalized ex-Senator Conman Burns- who the voters threw out because of all his corruption....The same corrupt ex-Senator he then hired to be his State campaign chairman this year- altho he doesn't even live in Montana anymore- having moved to D.C. to be (of all things  ) a LOBBYIST   :p

Or is he too busy chasing his floozy Lobbyist girlfriend around again :???:

2840 days 22 hours 25 minutes 51 seconds since he was last seen in Montana.
John McCain hasn't been to Montana in nearly eight years, and it shows. He's out of touch on the issues that matter to Montanans most.

Gee just when did you right-wing nut jobs decide that it was unacceptable to condemn a military man? It sure was perfectly all right to condemn John Kerry. It was ok for Saxby Chambliss to condemn a military man (a disabled one at that). Just when in the hell did it become a bad thing to do and make a person the "lowest life form" anyway?

Personally I don't care if a person cheated on their wife or their wife cheated on them. If that was a criteria for political office we would have very few choices to pick from. It does make interesting conversation for the water cooler or online message boards, but I don't give that much thought in picking a president. Exceptions may be if a person is STUPID enough and lacked self control to not keep it in his pants during an election or as President for their own good.

As for McCain personally I care about the kind of person I think he will be NOW in politics not his sex life some 30 years ago. Especially when his ex-wife and him kept a good relationship after the divorce. If I am going to look at his record past decades ago to see what kind of person he use to be this will do for me His seventeen military awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Navy Commendation Medal, for actions before, during, and after his time as a POW.

President Bush has a good marriage...OT has the double standard!

Clinton has a good marriage too, just because he "did not have sex with that woman" makes him a good standard for people to look up to. Or doesn't that count that he made a mockery of the office by his constant use of defining his defnation of sex?
Yet McCain's affair was not while he was setting in the oval office using it to NOT have sex!
Come on mr MORALITY Oldtimer can you overlook this?????\Or are your eyes all watery because of the smoke from a cigar??????
Yep double standard once again!!

You forget, it was Kerry that condemned the military and accused them of acts they didn't commit. It was Kerry's fellow soldiers that condemned him. You had better get your stories straight.

Really kind of sad- we just got thru with our kids getting educated on the nitely news about blowjobs and cigars with Clinton- and now we have the party that used to portray themselves as having high moral values wanting to elect someone whose bio puts out the message of the great American dream to succeed as- "kick your crippled wife and kids out and jump in the sack with a rich blonde heiress bimbo- that can better help you become a corrupt Congressman- as a road to becoming President"... What a message :(

I have been married now 22 years and am by no means an advocate of divorce, but if his ex wife seems to support him still so why should I hold it against him? Not to mention lots of people did things 30 years ago that they are not proud of.

I think if you are stuck on a divorce that happened over 30 years ago to a woman he knew a short time before marrying and then quickly going to war then spending years as a POW then you need to find more interesting things to look at!
