Republican Great White Hope?

Newt has strayed off the reservation again. He said "...the Bush administration is waging a "phony war" on terrorism...."

and

"None of you should believe we are winning this war. There is no evidence that we are winning this war."

More

"We were in charge for six years...." "I don't think you can look and say that was a great success."

Will he be the Republican nominee for President? Should he be the nominee?

That's not all. He said the Republican-led Congress and administration is a failure.

"We were in charge for six years," he said, referring to the period between 2001 and early 2007, when the GOP controlled the White House and both houses of Congress. "I don't think you can look and say that was a great success."

I'm anxiously waiting to hear the comments from our normal posters on this one....

Now when I or Kola or Shurrbert say this we are condemned and chastised as %$#@^%&*& Liberals...I wonder what that makes Newt :???:

Could it be that more of the Repubs and moderate and neocon conservatives are awakening to what they and GW have really done for the past 7 years-- and the sorry state that many folks think they have brought on :???: The true conservatives have recognized it for years....

I only hope and pray there is time left for the country to fix all their foulups...... :( :( I'm afraid it will take generations to bring back the amount of confidence in leadership and credibilty to the White House that they have eroded.... :(

You should have done a little more research, ff. Shame on you...

"...If you read what he actually said, however, Newt said that the war is entirely real. What is "phony," he argued, is the administration's approach to the war — including the reluctance to come to terms with the facts that radical Islam is the enemy, that you can't win it in a single theater (like Iraq), and that any serious approach would require real thought about energy independence...

Now that we've got that cleared up:

I don't think he will be and I don't think he should be. He's talking a good game now in telling conservatives what they want to hear, though. At some point, he's going to have to tackle the issue of his personal life. The sooner he gets that behind him, the better his chances will be.

It certainly qualifies as a "failure" of conservatism. I'm not sure there would have been much difference in spending between the Republican-led Congress and a dem Congress - the biggest difference would be in the source of the money. These new-style Republicans borrow and borrow and borrow to spend and spend and spend. At least the dems haven't changed - they tax and tax and tax to spend and spend and spend. :???:

I think you are right about what he meant...This is what this source quotes him as saying-- is he another one like GW- that needs folks to interpret and straighten out what he said or meant to say  :???:

"We used to be a serious country. When we got attacked at Pearl Harbor, we took on Imperial Japan, Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany," he said, referring to World War II. "We beat all three in less than four years. We're about to enter the seventh year of this phony war against ... [terrorist groups], and we're losing."

Isn't it interesting.......a farily simple but interesting thread about whether or not Newt's gonna run........But get the "christian (SMALL "c") self-appreciation club and morality police" jump in and all they can do is make petty and childinsh insults to a fellow member of the community. Curley, Mike and Larrry......the new morality stooges and final adjudicants of what true cowboys are and aren't.......except for the fact that they do their thing behind closed doors and never get tempted and never stray......at least in public......or maybe they really have no thing to do.....no wonder they are sanctimonius and mean....I guess I would be too if I had to live in their skins...

My what eloquence you have.
You and the rest of your stooges still have not seriously addressed the Newt issue. Is it your policy to ignore topics and subjects just so you can ridicule and deride those you that are not your sycophants?
