Republicans break promise to stop runaway spending--again

This alert is from Friends of Patriots update:

The politicians in Washington have lost their minds. After running up literally trillions of dollars in debt on the backs of U.S. taxpayers and future generations, they are now telling the American people: 'The sky is falling. We're spending way too much of your money and the only way out of this mess is to authorize Congress to borrow and spend more money.'

For the tenth time in as many years, the federal government has maxed out the taxpayers’ credit cards. And despite all the promises to stop the reckless spending of your hard-earned tax dollars… to cut the size and scope of the federal government… our elected so-called leaders (Democrats and Republicans alike) are now claiming that raising the nation’s 14.3 trillion dollar debt ceiling is a must… that they need an extended line of credit, a shiny new credit card.

And to add insult to injury, they’re telling you that AFTER they’re given that shiny new credit card, they will THEN fulfill their promise to suddenly become good stewards of your tax dollars and end their reckless spending addiction... PROMISE.

Sound familiar? With all due respect, the American people have been duped too many times to fall for that trap again.

Here's a better idea. The time has come to cut up Congress’ credit cards and REFUSE to raise the debt ceiling. Think about it: By preventing them from borrowing any more money – and sticking your children and grandchildren with the tab – the slick politicians in Washington would actually be FORCED to start making those cuts they promised us they would make... they wouldn't have the money to fund ObamaCare... they wouldn't have the money for more failed "stimulus" schemes or any other cockamamie big-ticket spending initiatives that Barack Obama is already vowing to advance over the next two years…

… Like the overwhelming majority of American families, the federal government would be forced to live within its means.

It's time to draw a line in the sand. It's time to cut Congress' credit line. It's time to tell our elected officials, in no uncertain terms, that we will not tolerate any move to raise the debt ceiling... period... end of sentence.

Don’t Be Fooled By the Politicians Who Claim It’s Irresponsible Not to Raise the Debt Ceiling.

Of course, too many of our elected officials are moving heaven and earth to convince you that not raising the debt ceiling would be irresponsible... that it would mean the United States defaulting on its debt obligations.

But that simply isn't true... it's a scare tactic being promoted by politicians (Republicans and Democrats alike) who are simply too addicted to spending your money.

Even House Speaker John Boehner is getting into the act. Recently, Boehner stated: “Congress must approve taking on more debt, which currently is growing by more than $4 billion per day. If it doesn't approve raising the ceiling, then the U.S. will default on its loans and lose its standing as the globe's most reliable bet."

Hogwash. The truth is: The United States DOES NOT lack the money to pay its current debt obligations... the problem is we lack the funds to pay our current debt obligations AND spend all of the money our elected officials WANT to squander on their pet projects.

As Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) wrote in the Wall Street Journal recently: "In fact, if Congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, the federal government will still have far more than enough money to fully service our debt. Next year, for instance, about 6.5% of all projected federal government expenditures will go to interest on our debt... why would we ever default? To make absolutely sure, I intend to introduce legislation that would require the Treasury to make interest payments on our debt its first priority in the event that the debt ceiling is not raised."

In other words, living under the current debt ceiling DOESN'T prohibit us from servicing our existing debt... it simply PROHIBITS the federal government from BORROWING and adding more to the national debt. And it forces Congress to do its job and make the tough decision to get our nation’s fiscal house in order.

The American people can no longer afford to be hoodwinked by the false promise of fiscal responsibility. After all, when you enable bad behavior, you only encourage more of it.

You wouldn't accept a promise from your alcoholic friend Mike that he'll curtail his drinking AFTER you consent to helping him restock his liquor cabinet. As a parent, you would not accept a promise from your adult child Bill, who has a spending problem, that he'll curtail his spending habits IF you loan him more money. You'd dump the liquor in the garbage... you'd cut up the credit cards... and you'd force Mike and Bill to fly right.

So it goes with Congress. It's time to practice some tough love with these elected officials. Their addiction to recklessly spending our hard-earned money must stop here and now.

Let them know, in no uncertain terms, to vote “No” on any and all increases to the debt ceiling. Tell them that the American people will not be hoodwinked by false promises of fiscal responsibility later. Tell them that if they are truly serious about cutting wasteful and runaway spending, they will abandon all plans to increase the debt ceiling and support Senator Pat Toomey's plan that would require the Treasury to make interest payments on our debt its first priority. Just as the overwhelming majority of American families are forced to live on a budget and within their means, it’s past time for the federal government to do the same.

House Republicans on Friday night released H.R. 1, the spending bill for the remainder of fiscal year 2011. The House Rules Committee will meet on Monday at 5 p.m. in order to consider this bill, and also to consider an oversight plan for the Rules Committee.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the House would begin debate on the bill on Tuesday.

The House Appropriations Committee said the bill contains the $100 billion in cuts that many House Republicans wanted, and that the bill is the first step to further cutting. The committee provided a summary of the sweeping cuts on their homepage tonight.

Ask Micheal Steele about spending. :p

like any other big spending rino he was replaced, and none to soon...

I had hoped he would have done a bit better.. but feel as if the party elites only nominated and elected him for his token race, to counter the calls of racism..

and in my opinion that is racist in itself.. and bad policy.. when we as a country get to the point where race doesn't matter as much as character and ability to do the job.. then we will have solved the problem of racism..
