Republicans Praise Obama for Offering Bold Vision to Thwart

Posted by Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Congressional Republicans heaped fulsome praise on President Obama’s second Inaugural Address today, saying that it had given them a detailed list of things to thwart over the next four years.

“My big fear was that the speech would be full of vague platitudes that wouldn’t be helpful to us in plotting against him,” said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). “Once he started offering details of what he actually hoped to accomplish, though, I realized we had hit the mother lode.”

Speaker Boehner praised the President for citing such specifics as hiring math and science teachers, building roads, and reducing health-care costs: “Now that we know that’s what he’s got in mind for his second term, we can hit the ground running to stop him.”

“My takeaway from the speech was, if we work hard enough, there’s nothing we can’t keep him from doing,” he said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) praised Mr. Obama for injecting humor into a usually somber address: “I loved that joke about ending political name-calling.”

True...part of the problem to date has been that nobody knew what Obama wanted....he just sat in his mansion and turned down proposal after proposal. I'm hoping but I'm not optimistic. The glitz and glitter and smiling will be gone tomorrow and will be back to Barrack on his high horse again.

sometimes there is more truth in humor then realized...

it is a joke for Obama to claim to want to end name calling when he and his party are the ones doing it.

It's good that OT can find humor today while millions of Americans remain unemployed (the same percentage today as when he was sworn in 4 years ago), gasoline prices are almost 80% higher, Gitmo remains open with many detained there never having charges filed against them, sea levels continuing to rise, and the national debt now at $16 trillion with no end in sight.

At least we can all thank OT for having done his part by drinking the koolaid and bringing Hope & Change to America.

All while things are so good in Montana, they have the highest suicide rate?

Expert witnesses testified that those were all accidents.

Dang, that's cold WW. You don't have to spank OT quite that hard. He'll begin to like it!

I enjoy bustin' Liberal's chops, but you're takin' it to a new level.

He wore that spade out, with the "shovel ready" jobs.

And you are incorrect on the number of unemployed being the same.

I want to know what kind of bible Abraham Lincoln had because he was a rosicrucian and their bible is not THE Holy Bible.

Hypo are you saying unemployment has gone down??? People who have filed for disability benefits, out of desperation of not being able to get a job have greatly increased...... but then if they want 70% of Americans on the government teat by 2016 that's one way to do it... don't you agree?

Seems like it took MO a while to get in the shape other states have but for the last 12 weeks the local news have announced layoffs somewhere everyday. County clerks are complaining that foreclosures are happening in mass numbers in this area....

No, unemployment has gone up.

Less people have been looking for work and even more have decided not to even "enter the workforce"

to maintain the "employment rate", you would have to create the number of jobs per month, that would be takken up by normal population growth.

The NET job growth during the last 4 years, is about 28,000 per month. Many have dropped off unemployemnt, stopped looking for a job, and gone on food stamps.

Just a couple weeks ago Obama said "The republicans are holding a gun to our heads" regarding the fiscal cliff. And this was after Sandy Hook. Talk about rhetoric
