Those spendthrift Republicans are at it again. Giving a huge tax break to the rich (think Theresea Heinz Kerry and Dick Cheney), while raising the debt limit again. I can maybe buy a tank of gas with my tax cut. So much for the party of fiscal responsibility. Am I the only person on this board who doesn't think this is a good idea? Link to both articles below; my emphasis.

"Democrats also cited a joint study by the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution that shows taxpayers with incomes greater than $1 million per year winning tax cuts of $42,000 under the bill while families with incomes of $50,000 a year would average a $46 tax cut."

"A $2.7 trillion budget plan pending before the House would raise the federal debt ceiling to nearly $10 trillion, less than two months after Congress last raised the federal government's borrowing limit."

I'll have you know my family could eat at Pizza Hut twice on that $46 tax cut. It's nothing to sneeze at!

Of course. How silly of me. But remember you do have to buy gas to get there!

Maybe the solution to your problem is get of your whining butt and figure out how to earn more money so you can enjoy a bigger tax cut.

How in the hell do you figure that someone earning $50,000 a year should get a $46,000 tax cut.

You are an economic idiot.

Do you think Theresa Heinz Kerry earned the millions of dollars that get her a $46,000 tax cut?

And are you ignoring raising the debt ceiling again? Did you know that the billions we owe China is about the equivalent of the billions we've spent in Iraq?

Guys, you're missing the point...

It has nothing to do with getting more. her point (and mine and kola's, too, I'd bet) is that for the piddly amount we're getting, they should keep it.
Considering the astronomical proportions our national debt is still climbing toward, my family won't miss $46. Nor will Ms. Kerry miss $46K.

The debt, on the other hand, could sure use some whittling down!

If you think we need yet more tax cuts, when are you planning on paying off the national debt?? :???:

Then why don't you, dis and kola send ya'lls back with a little note attached asking the Govt. to put it towards the national debt. :x I doubt that will happen, you'll probably invest it in two family outings at the local pizza hut. I bet you also return any money you might get back on your income tax return too?

An interesting dodge, but that didn't really answer my question.

If you think we need yet more tax cuts, when are you planning on paying off the national debt??

I've mentioned this before BBJ... Have you read up on it yet?
There is a major rift within the Republican party that is due, in large part, to the fact that our Republican-controlled government is spending money like a drunken sailor. Not exactly a "conservative" principle, there...

Do you honestly have no problems with that? Or are you so convinced everyone needs to stick to their proper teams that you're willing to ignore that fact and pass the problem on to the next couple of generations...? :???:

Maybe we should all donate half of our yearly income to paying it off for the next ?? years. That would work huh?

What does that have to do with voting against yet another tax break?

Or are you just throwing up red herrings because you can't really come up with something better?

Please. Feel free to explain why more tax breaks are perfectly in line with raising the debt ceiling to 10 trillion. I gotta admit-- I'm just not seeing the logic...

STOP with the "were fiscal conservatives garbage" Just because the republicans are spending like drunken prostitutes with 2 days to live doesn't mean voting deffacratic will solve the problem. You are a hypocrite again. Would you be willing to cut programs (good ones) to lower the debt? I would.

RR,
this thread is not about all the ills of the entire government. It was simply about more tax cuts.
This isn't complicated. Do you think we need them or not?

so you don't think you should pay taxes at all?

We have an extremely large debt, RR. One of the major budget hemorrages is another bone of contention within the Republican party; the Iraq war. Is that some of the spending you're willing to cut?

Or are you picking and choosing?

PS: In light of the fact that Congress has been Republican-controlled for 12 years, and the entire government has been Replublican-controlled for 6, it would seem "fiscal conservative" is an endangered specie...

I doubt if that's lkely to happen anytime soon. If it should, I'd consider it then in light of the hows and wherefores that are presented.

but the easy answer now would seem to be no more tax cuts
