I watched Bunning in some hearings lately- and he appears older than he is (77)...His comprehension of things doesn't seem to be there anymore....Either that or he's turned into an anti-everything old fogie..

I remember his pitching career- and always liked watching him pitch-- but I think its time he take a lesson from baseball and retire while your still winning......

Bunning Threatens to Sue NRSC
@ 4:23 pm by Jeremy P. Jacobs
Looks like Sen. Jim Bunning is tired of all of the stories about the GOP trying to force him into retirement.

From The Hill's Alexander Bolton:

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that he would sue the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) if it recruited a primary challenger against him.

Bunning also took a swing at NRSC Chairman John Cornyn during a conference call with reporters, questioning the Texas senator’s honesty.

Bunning has been at odds with the Senate Republican campaign committee over its lack of support for his reelection.

Committee officials last week met with Kentucky Senate President David Williams, who is exploring a challenge to Bunning.

Bunning threatened to sue the committee if it supported Williams or any other challenger.

“I would have a suit against the NRSC if they did that,” he said, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

“Support of incumbents is the only reason for [the NRSC’s] existence,” Bunning added. “So if they recruited someone and supported them in a primary against me, I would be able to sue them because they’re not following their bylaws.”

Cornyn said Monday that the NRSC would support Bunning’s reelection bid, but that failed to appease the cantankerous Kentuckian.

“I don’t believe anything John Cornyn says. I’ve had miscommunications with John Cornyn from, I guess, the first week of this current session of the Senate,” Bunning stormed to the Courier-Journal. “He either doesn’t understand English or he doesn’t understand direct: ‘I’m going to run,’ which I said to him in the cloakroom of our chamber.”

Bunning declined to discuss his comments with The Hill.

Cornyn said the blowup was a misunderstanding.

“I think it’s a big misunderstanding — we’re supporting Sen. Bunning,” said Cornyn, who added that he did not think Bunning will sue his committee.

You call that a tiff? People of both parties are constantly wanting one of their own to retire and make way for new blood. Always have and always will. That's why they have primaries. So what?

Wouldn't you rather discuss the meeting the other day between Dick Durbin and Roland Burris, after which Durbin called for Burris' resignation? Did you notice that Burris entered the House chamber alone last night, while every other senator entered in pairs? Now THAT'S a tiff!!

One of the few times a politician tells the truth is when he calls another politician a liar.

Bunning Threatens to Use Political Nuclear Weapon

Republicans have been publically and privately pushing Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) to retire at the end of his current term, which ends in 2010. They have also suggested that they might support a primary challenge to him. He is getting really angry with them and has supposedly now threatened to resign from the Senate if they don't stop this. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), knows precisely what the consequences of a Bunning retirement would mean: The governor of his own state, Kentucky, Democrat Steve Beshear, would appoint Bunning's successor, possibly Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo (D-KY). That would give the the Democrats 59 seats. If Al Franken wins his election contest in Minnesota, then the Democrats would have 60 seats in the Senate and the Republicans would be toast. So now McConnell is hostage to not only Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and Arlen Spector, but to Bunning as well. Nobody said being minority leader was easy. Bunning has always been a bit of loose cannon, so McConnell has to take threat seriously.
