Lugar, Specter, Martinez, will vote for Sotomayor- Graham ?

Sen Lugar Endorses Sotomayor

Fri Jul 17, 2009 at 07:30:25 AM PDT
Not suprised, On Friday morning, Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) became the first to officially say he would vote for Sotomayor. He released a statement in support of Judge Sotmayor on his website praising her temperament during the hearings and her experience.

Lindsey graham has been hinting he would vote to confirm her but it would be interesting to see how many conservative republican votes she gets.

Lugar's statement below:
"I have listened to the testimony of Judge Sonia Sotomayor before the Senate Judiciary Committee, carefully reviewed her public service record, and reviewed recommendations from Indiana constituents and colleagues here in the Senate.

Judge Sotomayor is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and she has demonstrated a judicial temperament during her week-long nomination hearing. Judge Sotomayor has had a distinguished career of public service. She is well regarded in the legal community and by her peers.

I will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States."

Nice to see a little bipartisanship and making a decision on the persons qualification....It gives a person hope things can still change in D.C.....It was mentioned the other day when the committee finished work on the Senate Health Care bill- that over 173 amendments offered by the minority (R's) were added to the majority (D's) written bill....

Three GOP moderates were quick to throw their support behind Sotomayor, led by the party’s senior senator, Richard Lugar of Indiana.

“Judge Sotomayor is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and she has demonstrated a judicial temperament during her week-long nomination hearing,” he said in a statement, noting the nominee “has had a distinguished career of public service. She is well regarded in the legal community and by her peers.”

Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe of Maine and Mel Martinez of Florida — the party’s only Hispanic senator — also said they would vote for her.

Yep...at least the world was made aware of her weaknesses in the process but she was a shoo in for election so no need not to vote for her and the others Obama was considering were even worse that this woman. As for the healthcare bill.....it's dead anyway. No way in hell that worthless peace of junk will ever pass. Course we haven't seen the Chicago style "encouragment" take place yet so I could be wrong...some may be "dead wrong".

Sen. Lindsay Graham to Support Sotomayor

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 1:10 PM

WASHINGTON -- Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham says he'll vote for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, breaking with his party's conservative leaders.

The South Carolinian had hinted during Sotomayor's confirmation hearings that he might back President Barack Obama's first high court nominee. His announcement brings the total number of Republicans publicly backing her to five.

Graham is generally conservative but has been known to flash a maverick streak similar to his mentor, Sen. John McCain of Arizona. The other Republicans who've said they'll vote for Sotomayor, who would be the first Hispanic justice, are all moderates.

The 55-year-old appeals court judge is expected to win confirmation in early August.

To oppose that would be anarchy...

and that is why picking a justice that doesn't think you make laws from the bench is so important. they make laws from the bench of the SCOTUS and then who do you appeal them to-
sotomayor should never get in.

That may be the reason so many are supporting her-- she stated several times in the confirmation hearings that she believes in following the law as written-- which she may have proved/shown to any of those that really know the law in the Ricci/New Haven firefighter case- in which hers and the appeals Judges court followed the letter of the law and all precedents of that District....
The SCOTUS was actually the "activist" court in that case--altho the rightwingernuts have tried to turn it otherwise... And that was explained quite well in the hearings....

What she said in the hearings and what she did in the past are two different things. Some Republicans are voting for her because; 1) There's no way that Maobama is going to appoint anybody acceptable to anybody that believes in the Constitution 2) The Dems are going to railroad her through with their majority, anyway.

When you gullible idiots elected this socialist btard, it was a foregone conclusion that we would get a moonbat appointed.

so what are you saying here OT-
are you saying sotomayor followed the law and was right?
are you saying SCOTUS was wrong?

Am glad you read it that way too Lonecowboy, I thought that I was reading it wrong.
