Rescues we've done over the years...

Here are a few pictures from years gone by where we had to rescue calves  . Obviously these were taken before the digital camera, so I took pics of the pics :D .

I could hear a calf bawling, and her mom was searching in the area, so I had some clues where to look. She had fallen down into these rocks with no way out.

This cow was frantically bawling one morning, and I could hear a very faint calf answering her. I looked and looked, never thinking to check under a very small opening underneath some boulders. Finally I figured it out, and called Jim over for help. He was back underneath the boulders about 6 feet in a little hole, with no clearance at all. We used the calf hook to get him out, but it wasn't easy :D .

I'd been missing a calf for a week, and assumed he was dead. NOPE...one morning I could see some little black thing crawling up out of a draw. He had fallen through the snow, down into a draw and lived off of willow roots and snow until it melted the snow enough to where he could crawl out  . The heifer took him right back luckily, he was a little thin for a while, but alive :D .

This is the picture I like to show folks who can't possibly understand why we mean ranchers would shoot an innocent coyote :? . Obviously this wasn't a rescue, but a euthanasia instead  .

Thanks for the reminder of triumphs & tribulations, WY Rancher. We ranchers sacrifice more for our animals than the city folk could ever imagine.

some great shots. What gets me is how some of these calves survive some of the things they get into  ...or in the last pic what gets into them.

I did some horse rescues last summer with Houston Animal Cops. It is pretty cool feeling help these animal. It showed on TV about three months ago. I also trained one of the horses and they come out and video it. But they only showed part of it on TV. I took my oldest daughter to ride my gelding as a was riding the horse I broke. It will be something she will never forget.
