Here are a few pictures from years gone by where we had to rescue calves  . Obviously these were taken before the digital camera, so I took pics of the pics

.
I could hear a calf bawling, and her mom was searching in the area, so I had some clues where to look. She had fallen down into these rocks with no way out.
This cow was frantically bawling one morning, and I could hear a very faint calf answering her. I looked and looked, never thinking to check under a very small opening underneath some boulders. Finally I figured it out, and called Jim over for help. He was back underneath the boulders about 6 feet in a little hole, with no clearance at all. We used the calf hook to get him out, but it wasn't easy

.
I'd been missing a calf for a week, and assumed he was dead. NOPE...one morning I could see some little black thing crawling up out of a draw. He had fallen through the snow, down into a draw and lived off of willow roots and snow until it melted the snow enough to where he could crawl out  . The heifer took him right back luckily, he was a little thin for a while, but alive

.
This is the picture I like to show folks who can't possibly understand why we mean ranchers would shoot an innocent coyote :? . Obviously this wasn't a rescue, but a euthanasia instead
