Study of 2200 suicide attacks by Robert Pape, professor at University of Chicago, partially funded by the Dept of Defense.
The reality is that suicide terrorism starts when a region becomes occupied by a foreign army.
Suicide terrorism is not related to religion. Many of the groups committing such were non-religious.
If it was only about Islamic fundamentalism you have to ask why there was no suicide terrorism before their lands were occupied. And the hardcore Islamic fundamentalist countries such as Sudan, that were not occupied did not commit suicide terrorism.
Suicide attacks have greatly increased as our occupation increases. We are producing more terrorists than we are killing.
Another case where research shows the obvious - that people everywhere don't like their country being occupied, and if they are at a disadvantage, they'll use desperate measures, especially when there is "collateral damage" and family members are killed.
