Clarence, I have been told that bird is a "Ring Necked Dove". I have never seen one, but heard them around town a lot the last couple of years. The sound is similar to a Mourning Dove, but with a different call.

They are a new bird here. I wonder where they came from. I have heard them here the past 3 years. This is the first year I have seen them in the open. There seems to be quite a number of them here now. Doves have several broods a year so they my increase fairly fast. I think the mourning dove only has 2 eggs to a brood, they don't make much of a nest either.
The Western bird book list the Ringed Turtle Dove as being arround Los Angles. The Eastern Bird Book says they are birds that have excaped from cages.

The ring necked Eurasian doves that took up here a few years ago were brought in by a Hurricane from some of the Carribean Islands.

They are a lot like pigeons in that they travel in groups and make a mess.

They do eat pretty good and are legal to shoot year round here tho'.

They are a light-tan color on the breast with gray on the wings and a distinct black "collar" around the neck.
