And the instructor does not wear his hearing protection - your partner may have had plugs in.

I listen to noise in the 75 decibel range continuously roaring in both ears and will for the remainder of my life from past service - so I tend to notice

The istructor (retired SWAT instructor) I think was wearing ear plugs in addition to the muffs.

My friend was wearing "combat" plugs that I gave him. They are what the Army issues now. I've seen them at Cabelas made by Peltor, they are flanged with yellow on one end, OD on the other. Yellow out for constant loud noise, OD out for tactical. The tactical side out has a little diaphram that closes with loud noise, remains open to hear stuff.

I have some tinitus myself, not really any hearing loss according to the test they have you take. I only notice the high pitched noise if it's dead quiet. I first noticed it in Iraq when I tried sleeping with my earplugs in. I had a night shift and the base was loud durring the day. Right behind my trailer was a huge cummins generator about the size of a shipping container going 24/7.

That's the Condor Plate Carrier that Cheaper Than Dirt sells with the "shingle" type mag pouches, hydration carrier with 100oz camelbak in the rear. I cheated for the class, I didn't wear the eSAPI plates.

Rifle I bought as a Bushmaster stripped lower, got the lower parts kit of ebay. Upper from Model 1 Sales, changed the barrel this year to a 16" M4 type (original was heavy with Y Comp) and a Phantom flash suppressor. The optics is a EoTech 557 with FTS 3x Magnifier. YHM flip front site, can't remember who makes the rear backup, it has a dial for your range. Magpul PMags to feed it.

Sidearm is a HK USP .40 s&w with jet funnel kit/16 rd mags with a Blackhawk drop leg holster.

Ready to protect the herd when unemployment and crime increase.

I'm running an Eagle plate carrier with a Callahan chest rig, concealable armor and 1/4" AR500 steel plates. Legal ESAPI plates are hard to find and pricey.

My M-Forgery sports an EOTECH also with a Larue rear flip up site and a Pentagon weapons light.

I keep a Glock22 (.40 cal) on the chest rig in the extreme strongside mag pouch. It sits in a hoster with a bungee retention.

With the price of ammo these days, my range time has been limited.

ESAPI plates have been reasonable on ebay.

I have family down in Homestead, I can see why you'd be starting to gear up down there. I had someone I'm related to recently involved with a home invasion, luckily one person escaped and the bad guys took off before killing them.

[edit]

I haven't looked for plates on ebay in a while, just did a search and only came up with fake ones.
