I had one 2 years ago. I just napped during both sessions. No biggie.

What did you get clipped for it? Mine was $650 USD, but with the dental insurance I had, I only paid $325 USD.

I had one on Monday morning 1st one I've ever had.Should have just pulled it out.

I had one a couple years ago that I only got one twinge of sensitivity--and he just numbed her a little more- and I felt nothing...

But thats my "painless" toddy drinking friend for a Doc- that says half my sensitivity is probably gone because of all the years of Snuce chewing (50 years)...And he said its prevented most my cavities--but may lose me my whole jaw someday  :???:

I'm with you Denny--those dudes hurt....I about went thru the chair. I had one done--after that I said just pull em doc. Course horse knocked bunch of my teeth out-loosened some others--just pulled them all--so now, dont have to worry about root canals or cavities :D :D

I had a cracked molar last fall, and the dentist told me I should get a crown on it before it cracked worse and needed a root canal.
So I did. 8)
THEN it started to hurt.
THEN I needed a root canal.
Eleven hundred dollars later, my tooth doesn't hurt, just like before I got the original crown!

But the root canal itself didn't hurt. I walked out of there frozen so much that I couldn't feel my eye. :D :D :D

So how did everyone else get off so cheap?
I think it was '01 when I had a root canal done in Calgary. I was quoted $1900.00. I cringed at that but said ok  Once it was all said and done I walked out of there $3000.00 less in my bank account!!  They said it was more because I had a 4th root? How could that be proven ??. Needless to say I never went back to that dentist ever again. I could've had a pretty darn nice saddle horse for that!! :x
The second root canal I got I told this dentist the horror on the first one. He quoted me $800.00 and he stuck to his quote.
I won't do a root canal again, they'll have to pull it instead.
I had a nasty toothache all last week but with many asprin the pain has subsided, swelling is gone and everything is back to normal. :)

Got 3 done when I was a kid. About lost all my front teeth thanks to a side mirror on a pickup.
Had one done a few months ago. Dentist messed up and zapped me when he was doing it. He forgot the material he was using conducts to electricity.
Always had had trouble with that tooth, now no more.

Jigger Boss.....an abcessed tooth is nothin to sneeze at. Not sayin you sneezed, but just because the swelling went down, doesn't mean it's gone. It's a very dangerous thing to let go. We had a patient one time, came in all swollen, we gave him antibiotics, and told him he either needed to have a root canal done, or take the tooth out. He ignored that advice. Two weeks later he was in ICU because the infection from the abcessed tooth had moved to the fluid on his brain. Serious serious stuff there.

But....on the other hand, the cost of a root canal is out of sight, then havin to crown it afterward even more $$$$. If it aint one of my front teeth, I think I'd hafta just opt to yank that sucker out.
I bought my boss a lil statue thing one time, that was a dentist with a pair of plyers behind his back. At the bottom it said, "Dr. VanYanknpull"

It cost $970 I paid $263 of it now tonight I was flossing between them and the old filling came flying out.The temporary filling is still holding but the rest of it is gone They said there was more cavity that needed fixed plus a crown I may just go have the damn thing pulled anyhow.I've had a headache and tooth ache for 2 weeks now.The last time I had a tooth that bad I had a different dentist yank it and the only person who misses it is my regular dentist..

two years ago I was quoted a root canal at $1700. I paid the $150 and had it pulled. this year I had another old filling fall out, and the tooth got infected and so painful I could not take it....went in and they pulled it. they numbed me up and touched the nerve, and I flew out of the chair. the dentist said "yep, it is infected" took a week of antibiotic, and then they took it out with out a problem.

had to cut it in half because it was too big to pull out as one....the root was big as hell......the doctor even commented that he may keep that one!

the weird crap people collect!

I had alot of pain just before Farmington-so I went in and they pulled a wisdom tooth-it kept getting worse for pain but everytime I went in they just said it was ligament damage from pullingh the other one. Finally I had a big old abscess in my mouth that popped when the dentist touched it. He says I need a root canal too. It swelled up again at National Finals but I just looked in a truck mirror and poked it with a sharp stick literally-almost good as new.

Well if you ain't the toughest ole bugger ever. . . . I don't see why you bothered letting him pull the nasty ole tooth. Look at what you would have saved if you'da pulled it yourself too.

Just reading what you did made me cringe way down in my chair.

That reminds me of the story Dad used to tell about the old Basque sheepherder they came across one day that was sitting in his camp with sore spots all over his face and inside his mouth...He finally got the point across to the guys in broken English that he had a bad tooth and had been trying to burn the root using a wire heated in his cookfire and a mirror- but had missed causing the burns around his mouth...They helped him out and did the job for him- and they said he was grinning and plumb happy when they left

Stories of tough old guys aside, there are times when ignoring bad teeth can be dangerous. Better to be cautious than dead! Sure it costs money.....so does messing up your bite, but especially taking chances on serious infections. But it is darn hard to find good dentists.
