Dispute Over Game Warden May Be Finished
State Game, Fish and Parks Secretary Jeff Vonk says his department will resume its normal working relationship with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Vonk says it's because of an informal agreement that will keep Federal Game Warden Bob Prieksat in the Pierre office instead of in the field where hunters complained about his aggressive behavior.
The governor had asked that Prieksat be fired or transferred. He threatened to end the state's contracts with the Fish and Wildlife Service and any working relationships between the state and federal outdoor agencies.
Vonk calls the agreement a good compromise and says it accomplishes the goal of getting Prieksat away from direct contact with hunters.
