Rove issues 'birther' warning to Perry
Posted by
CNN Producer Gabriella Schwarz
(CNN) - Karl Rove said Monday that Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry may harm his campaign by stoking the "birther" controversy.

"You associate yourself with a nutty view like that, and you damage yourself," Rove said.

In an interview published Sunday in Parade magazine, Texas Gov. Perry said he believes the president was born in the United States, but was less confident that the birth certificate he released earlier this year was real.

"I don't know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night," Perry said. "He doesn't think it's real."

Real estate mogul Donald Trump championed the "birther" movement during his flirtation with a bid for the White House. President Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii, eventually released the long form version of the document to seemingly combat the growing rumors.

But Rove, who was the chief campaign and message architect for former President George W. Bush, said Perry should not associate with the group.

"I know he went and he's trying to cultivate … Donald Trump, in order to get his endorsement, but this is not the way to go about doing it," Rove said on Fox News. "It starts to marginalize you in the minds of some of the people whom you need in order to get the election."

According to Rove, Perry should have said: "Yes, he [Obama] was born in the United States, yes, he is eligible to serve and don't associate yourself with this nutty fringe group."

Sometimes I wish Rove would keep his Old Boy Club opinions to himself. If Obama has nothing to hide let him open his records and come clean. Only a guilty guy pays hard earned cash to hides his past and Obama has spent a cold million and counting.

I rewrote the proper response:

"Well, what we need to do, is to have the Natural Born Citizen definition issue put to rest, before someone like Rubio runs. As you know, there were some questions pertaining to this issue concerning McCain, and from Hilary supporters about obama, in 2008.

As I understand it, there is some debate on whether a citizen, who's parents, plural/both of them, were not US naturalized citizens at time of birth, is eligible. I fully support children of immigrants to run for President and VP, and we should determine the true definition of NBC, so these so-called "birthers", both Dem. and Repub., will be confident that the Constitution is being adhered to, and also that this is a non-partisan issue, but a legal issue, that has been verified, clarified and constitutionally documented. There are many, very qualified, children of immigrants that should run, but are probably not, because they don't know whether they are eligible or not.

It does no one any good to have these loose ends swinging in the wind. This issue is a distraction, that should have been clarified sooner, so it does not take up energy and resources, that could have been used solving more pressing issues at hand.

Why do you bring up this distraction now? Is it something that you feel is important enough to have resolved before the 2012 election? Is it an issue that should be looked at by the courts immediately"

Someone who thinks they will get a straight answer out of "ANYONE" in Washington is a "NUT". Even if the p*ss ignorant, socialistic, a** kissin, apologizing POS does'nt have a real birth certificate, his handlers have already made sure with the right people that it is a non-issue.

  8)

yet it remains an issue, and an unanswered question, that has continued to damage his credibility.......imagine that? Why has it damaged his credibility, cause he cares less about the Constitutional annswer, and hides from it......why not meet the question "head on" and offer up the answer, in the name of "transparency"?

Why has he, obama, not come up with the SCOTUS decision that makes a citizen, born a dual citizen, constitutionally eligible to serve. ANSWER: there is none.......only doubt.

The SCOTUS citation should be pretty easy to find, shouldn't it? He has the resources, doesn't he? It should be clearly evident that he is eligible and this evidence could be presented in a court of law, very easily, I would think. But they continue to avoid the court........

Why not just present the evidence and be done with it?

WHAT IS THE SCOTUS DEFINITION OF NATURAL BORN CITIZEN?

Nobody can answer with any certainty!!!!

Perry looks like a more honest man than I thought he was, for answering as he did. He doesn't know, and neither do the rest of us.

"The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts. It is sufficient for everything we have now to consider that all children born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction are themselves citizens."

Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162 (1875)

Im not disputing your logic Hypo. Im not even saying that I disagree with your logic. There have been people that have had what could be construed as legitimate issues with the birth certificate or lack thereof since Dumb and Dumber took office.

The point I was making was that so far nobody powerful enough to do anything about it has expressed concerns. If the right people wanted something done, something could be done. Im not saying "Conspricay". Im just saying that that is how Washington works. Look at all of the things that happen there that would cause most of us to land in jail. Call it whatever a person wants, but most of America is too damned honest to ever hold down a job there for any length of time.

what I find really funny is far left liberals are now quoting and clinging to Rove's words... :?

somehow, McSame and Rove have become the liberals new best friend..

About as funny as the Rightwingernuts that are now throwing the ones they Championed for years under the bus ....

Rove could not have used a better description for this group--"nutty fringe group"...

I have never really liked or supported Rove or McCain.. Rove was always a party elite, and lost alot of favor when he spoke against the TEA party.. McCain was always a rino.. and few conservatives ever really jumped up to support him.. and when you think independently you can disagree with a persons comments.. without tossing them under a bus..

How do you see laughing at your sudden conversion to Rove's thinking as throwing him or McCain under a bus?

oldtimer- why do you think it is "nutty" to want our Constitution upheld and have rule of law instead of being ruled by men?
why do you think it is "nutty" to make sure our president does not have divided loyalty as our Constitution demands?

Cheap whores will use a quote from anyone to attempt to make a point.

Even their enemy.........................................

Some of these same rightwinger NUTs that claim to know more than all the Judges, Courts, SCOTUS and all the legal scholars in knowledge of and interpreting the Constitution- is the reason they have been labeled as "nut case" "crazy" extremists and are being moved away from by educated folks on all sides...

Just because Rush, Beck, or Hannity tells you it (so they can further stuff their millionaire pockets spouting hate to the ignorant that buy it up without question)-- doesn't make it so...

so oldtimer are you then saying that someone with one American and one foreign parent, that is automatically a british subject at birth, then later adopted by an indonesian and the only papers available list him as indonesian, is a natural born citizen? if so why spend millions trying to keep it out of courts? why not go and let all the legal scholars you described declare him a natural born citizen? why would that be "nutty" to expect a candidate to prove that he is eligible?
