Four more counties sign on to open Primary lawsuit

HELENA - Four more county Republican parties are signing onto the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Montana's "open" Primary election system.

The lawsuit was filed in early September in U.S. District Court against Secretary of State Linda McCulloch and Ravalli County Election Administrator Regina Plettenberg by the Ravalli County Republican Central Committee. At issue is Montana's system which allows voters to "cross-over" party lines during a Primary election.

Backers of the GOP suit claim that's a violation of U.S. Constitutional rights allowing for "freedom of association" under the First Amendment.

They say the current system skews the parties' ability to select their own leaders without having the opposing party sabotage an election with cross over voting. The suit claims Montana's Primary system is a "relic" and should be changed.

Now, four additional Republican Central Committees have joined the suit representing GOP leaders in Sanders, Gallatin, Dawson and Stillwater counties.

The suit won't impact this season's elections, but the parties believe filing the suit now will force the Montana Legislature to address the issue this coming year.

Again they are trying to run away voters rather than trying to make their tent more inclusive and get votes/support from more of the evergrowing large number of Independents in this State...

You're a classic example of a close-minded person OT. On every subject you've got your mind made up and regardless of what someone else says, YOU KNOW BETTER.

Seems they're quite clear that they're worried about political dirty tricks by their opponents and with the donks history of doing whatever it takes to win an election, they probably are correct in their concerns.

Every state gets to set its election format and every voter has the right to challenge certain aspects as they're doing today.

For the record, when I first registered as a youngster, Louisiana had closed primaries with a donk and pub meeting in the general election. Because there were so few pub candidates back then, I actually registered as a donk so I could participate in more elections.

The donks, believing they could overwhelm pubs with their numbers then pushed through an open primary system and it exploded in their faces. They figured they could box out most pub candidates before the generals.

What happened instead though is that I, and thousands and thousands of others, immediately switched parties with the new open primary system and since then the pubs have dominated most local elections.

But back to your specific post here......why don't you just stfu about it. You don't care, you don't vote conservative, and you don't give a rat's ass about the future of the conservative movement.
