Bill, "Gosh I don't know but if you really really think so maybe you could get the girls at the bank to check it out and report back to us when things slow down a bit with your job and all. By the way how is it that you have so much time to post here through the week being the busy man you are?"

Have you ever been in a bank, Bill? Those nifty little things you thought were personal TV sets are computer screens. We use computers all day. It takes all of 5 seconds to check over here to see if you've provided any more gems like the $30 tariff R-CALF supposedly wanted - that you refuse to provide any proof on. Some people take a break in the break room, some go out for a smoke, I check on BS you post but can't back up.

From the R-CALF web site
"Why was R-CALF USA founded?

In 1998 the R-CALF USA was founded as a foundation to represent and file three trade cases on behalf of the U.S. cattle industry. Trade laws are different from domestic laws in that it is generally required that the domestic industry monitors them and files the appropriate petitions when a trade violation occurs that is damaging U.S. prices.

R-CALF USA filed a live cattle and anti-dumping (selling below the cost of production) case against Canada and Mexico , and a countervailing (subsidy) case against Canada. The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in January dismissed the Mexico case. In the summer of 1999, the Department of Commerce (DOC) found that Canada was subsidizing the production of live cattle, but not at a high enough rate to warrant penalty tariffs. The DOC in July of 1999 also found Canada was dumping cattle into the U.S. at a high enough rate to warrant tariffs equivalent to the violation to be put on. The U.S. cattle market saw an immediate improvement in their markets.

Unfortunately, the ITC ruled in November of 1999, contrary to the DOC findings, that U.S. producers were not “materially injured” by the dumping of Canadian cattle and the ITC lifted the anti-dumping tariffs imposed by the DOC.

Ummmmmmm Sandhusker!!!!!!!

Where did I ever write anything about a $30.00 tariff. Maybe you should cut back on the meds. as you obviously are imagining things.

We know what you use your computer ALL DAY for.I am sure your boss and fellow workers would shake their heads if they knew the slack they had to pick up covering for you.

I'm sure R-CALF would have liked a $300 dollar tarriff but they didn't get it. The trade actions were the reason R-CALF was formed. Do we agree on that?

We can only hope and pray that someone that has the right genetic makeup to contract something like vCJD ( if it is truly caused by eating beef) didn't eat any of that minute amount of beef. :|

How many thousands of hot dogs or hamburgers could be infected with the meat from one positive cow?

Thats why I say that those that want to put there head in the sand until this BSE issue goes away may run out of air before it does...I hope/pray you are correct Tam- but if you look at the numbers it is not good....I'm not sure if it will be this year-5 years from now-10-or 15---But I think sometime in the future this is going to come right back to bite us in the butt...And I see nowhere our governments or our Ag/cattle groups are preparing/prepared to deal with it......How much will the consumer anywhere then believe USDA or CFIA when they tell them how safe something is? And the Tyson/Cargill/Swifts etal that have actually made the decisions on this whole BSE plan won't care as they'll just move to another protein or another country like many already are prospering from  :(

Yes, I'll agree that legal trade actions were why R-CALF was formed. When did we ask for a $30 tariff?

Tam, Here is a quote from Dresden James "A truth's initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving luntic."

The Government investigation, only cleared the Government people,And discredited the people that actually did have something to do with the cow.

Maybe, you should come to Washington state and do your own investigation. The people, that had anything to do with the cow,are still here.

Best Regards
Ben Roberts

As you said we have been repeatedly lied to and for the past three years we have been listening to story after story about how the animal was extensively investigated and the truth supposedly came out. So bear with us if some of us are a bit sceptical when we hear some one claim they know more than they are willing to provide proof to. :?

BTW something about your quote, if the speaker has some kind of proof to back his story and is willing to share it, chances are not all the listener will think he is a raving luntic.

And thanks for the invite to your beautiful state but if I was to investigate any of the US cases it wouldn't be the one that the USDA actually did find out where she came from and what caused her BSE .

With the small percentage of cattle tested in Canada compared to the number slaughtered in Canada (less than 1%),

You'd best be whipping out your old calculator there OT. We have an annual cull slaughter around 300,000 animals and we tested, what, 40 - 50,000? 30,000? That less than 1% number is what the US has tested (actually, much less than 1%). We're running between 10% and 20%.

Time to get your facts straight OT.

Hey don't hold up the coffee line waiting for anything from me Sandhusker and as I wrote earlier I didn't write anything about any $30 tariff. I can see however how you may have been confused by my reply to Ben as I did agree with these points in his post:

-R-Calf has always had a protectionist attitude toward Canadian beef...

-R-Calf attempted to close the border............

-R-Calf speaks out of both sides of there mouth..........

-.....if you look at the genetics of the cattle that are owned by R-Calf members you will find alot of Canadian genetics that have been proven superior to ours, including your herd.

-.....R-Calf is in deeper than they would like to be on the border issue and if not for BSE, that they keep leaning on,it would not be an issue.

I don't know if his $30 tariff is accurate or not and have neither the time nor the interest to google to prove or disprove anything. We all know what motivated R-Calf to be formed and what continues to drive them today.

Protectionism and some snake oil salesmen who are now using BSE for personal gain and to re-start their stalled campaign to make trade a one-way street.

I'm talking all cattle here Bill-- Japan, UK, and Europe have shown that the 30 month rule is one of the first farces presented by USDA/CFIA/AMI/NCBA-- as they have found numerous under 30 month old positives.....
