RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

I hesitated initially to respond to your post - but living in the middle east and working daily with Arab and Jewish folks in areas of tension I decided to throw my two cents in.

This is not the only paper I have seen on this subject.

Some will ridicule this paper because it was placed on the internet by Drudge, but the fact remains there are many other people in the world who have wondered if this would come.

It was the topic of a call in show in Israel about a week ago - folks wondering if the U.S. could hang together - or even survive - with the new president at the helm.

As I am a northern neighbour I follow this fairly closely and do fear you folks are in for some tougher times than many would be happy to admit.

This comment made me think:

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

I believe he danced around (ignored) something that is very dangerous and growing - and that is the topics of race and religion - perhaps I will offend some but - after seeing what happens here in the middle east - these issues will be the biggest problem in the U.S. for the next generation as the white folks get used to being a minority and anything Christian can be attacked at will by any other group - yet the turn about causes human rights complaints galore. With human rights tribunals decisions routinely and often arbitrarily going against anything or anyone who is white - almost always a politically correct decision while ignoring any past traditions, history or accepted norms.

Racism is growing in the world and the U.S. is not out of the woods - and one thing some folks in the U.S. need to get over real quick is that you DO NOT have to be white to be racist. I believe it will cause serious problems and could divide your nation over the next ten years.

You are and will continue to see a large and rapid increase in people following the muslim religion (immigration AND converts) - a religion that hates the U.S. and desires the downfall of anything western - and the U.S. is the considered the "bastion of evil" - their main target - the U.S. deals far too softly with this issue within it's own borders and could very easily turn into another Lebanon within the next two generations. Anyone laughing at this has not been a serious student of Lebanese history. It happened there and very quickly. Your Constitution in this matter could be your downfall.

I wonder if the potentially predicted outcome is so far from the truth?

Hey Sandhusker they just reported on the news that there are nine states that have a surplus budget. Neb, SD, ND, Wy, Montana, Alaska, Texas, and I can't remember the other two.

They interviewed your governor and he said the key was to cut spending and lower taxes. I thought that was never supposed to work  after all we need change. :x

I have been hearing talk of these northern states that border each other ceding from the Union. I don't have enough knowledge on the subject to know if that is even possible, but at any rate, it is being discussed.

Texas had an 11 billion dollar surplus....and no state income tax. Many of the economic problems have not been felt in the state and the economy is still growing. Time will tell.

Good point, we have two choices, accept the facts and see Islam for what it is and destroy it in it's entirety, or start praying 5 times a day. There is no compromise.

If you really think Muslims hate America so much and imply that this is some sort of battle of cultures, is it really prudent to post your information under your avatar?

Either you believe the smoke you are blowing and are therefore incredibly stupid to advertise your identity, or you are just blowing hateful smoke to get attention.

By the way, Virgil Goode lost his election. I bet you would have liked to have a guy like that represent you.

If you've been sleeping those last 8 years I'll give you a hint--his initials are George W Bush.... :(

And I wonder who else will call him on it? I'm guessing you and me.

Even OldTimer seems to be showing a xenophobic side on this one!

Funny how it seems sick when it's turned back towards them. I've spent some time researching what the Koran actually says, now I understand that what we call terrorists are not extremists. Islam is not just a religion, it's a political system first and foremost, a personal religion second. You'll understand when you hear the morning call to prayer at sunrise every morning.

Have you ever read the Bible? Do you think there might be a connection between what it says and the Inquisition? The Crusades? The dark side of the industrial revolution?

Taking a snapshot of a religion at a particular point in time, from a particular geopolitical perspective doesn't provide the whole picture - even though I think your snapshot is out of focus as well.

You might have had a different reaction to the call to prayer had it been in Malaysia, Niger, or Thailand rather than in a combat zone.
