Bobby Barter...better known as Booger...passed away today.

The man knew how to touch people and bring a smile to their faces.

A fine gentleman. A true loss.

I am sad and tears shall be shed for this man.

I never attended one of his team ropins....but I know he set a whole new standard for barrel races. The producers out there are gonna hafta step up to the plate for sure now. None run as smooth as his, no one has the money pay out that he did, or the prize packages.

This has sent a big shock wave thru the industry that's for sure.

I took pictures in March in Conroe of Lil Lilly with him when she won her first check at one of his shows.

LOL yeah, our decent size jackpots look like backyard barrel races compared to a WBR event.

from today's Athens Daily Review

Barter found dead

By Rich Flowers News Editor

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Athens Review typically does not report on suicides. However, due to the public location of the event, and because the person involved is considered a public figure, details have been included in this report.

A longtime producer of team roping and barrel racing events, Booger Barter, was found dead near Athens, Tuesday.

Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt said his department received an anonymous call between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., that the body of a deceased man had been seen at the Virginia Hill Church, east of Athens.

Officers went to the location and found Barter. A gun and Barter's pickup were also found at the scene. Nutt said Barter appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Precinct 6 Justice of the Peace Milton Adams conducted an inquest, and ordered the body sent to Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

I hadn't seen the article....but knew that's what happened. So sad, that someone that did as much as he did for folks....did somethin like that.
They are trying to keep that part of it low key to protect his youngest son. I think he's like 8 or 9.
