Appeals Court Upholds Saddam Hussein's Death Sentence
Tuesday, December 26, 2006

Saddam Hussein
BAGHDAD, Iraq — An Iraqi appeals court has upheld the death sentence imposed on Saddam Hussein at his first trial, Iraq's national security adviser said Tuesday, and a tribunal official said the verdict will be carried out even if the presidency doesn't ratify it.

"The appeals court approved the verdict to hang Saddam," Mouwafak al-Rubaie told The Associated Press.

On Nov. 5, an Iraqi court sentenced Saddam to the gallows for the 1982 killings of 148 people from a Shiite Muslim town after an attempt on his life there.

The appeals court decision must be ratified by President Jalal Talabani and Iraq's two vice presidents.
Talabani opposes the death penalty but has in the past deputized a vice president to sign an execution order on his behalf — a substitute that was legally accepted.

Once the decision is ratified, Saddam and other co-defendants sentenced to death at the trial would be hanged within 30 days.

This could get interesting. Both Saudia Arabia and Jordan have spoken out against killing Saddam Hussein. He is a Sunni, after all. And maybe the idea of a dictator being hung makes them a bit uncomfortable since they're not far from that category themselves.

And now the world will come to an end according to the libbies, they are not invincible and justice will be served. Oh yea, he had nothing to do with anything but just killing innocents and having the ego to come after us is nothing to worry about, he HAD WMDS and was willing to use them. This was nothing but a get even thing for GWB saving his father, in your DREAMS. You people need to get out more often and smell the roses. I have sat here and read all of the crap lately, no response, because it does not deserve one. When the towel heads are taking over your town, call me, I taught my sniper how to shoot.

Everyone needs to check out the photos and press releases that the individual news sources are putting up. Communist News Network (cnn) has him looking like a senator. I wonder who's biased?

I never could watch any of the beheadings that the muslims preformed. I'll watch this.

Mariam al-Rayes, a legal expert and a former member of the Shiite bloc in parliament, told Iraqiya television that the execution "was filmed and God willing it will be shown. There was one camera present, and a doctor was also present there."

I looked at the video and photos. Those fellas know how to make a noose. That knot is as big as a quart fruit jar. Just from looking at how his neck was limp, I'd say it was pretty humane. I'd say he never felt the rope get tight.
