Scary Feed Outlook?

Mike

Was talking to the feed mill owner here yesterday. He has to book his grain for next year in March to avoid any surprises in the market.

Anyway, he says the big grain brokers have been talking the possibilities for $18 soybeans and $8 corn next year this time.

If the prices even come close to this, it will eliminate all the cattle around here.

There is no way to make this pencil out.......................... All of the pasture land will be converted to bean fields like they were in the 70's?

We are right now selling spring wheat for over ten bucks a bushel.. They say that the peculators are taking their money out of wheat and putting them in corn... And five dollar corn will be nothing.... Sunflowers are over 20 bucks a hundred.

I bought corn 2 weeks ago at 4.35 and I hear it is up to 5.30 this week. We need to make sure and plant some if we want feed next fall.

We can't even be sure of a crop now.

The long term weather prediction is projecting drought through June of this year.

Wow, cracked corn @ $228/ton! That is pretty high, barrelgal!

Could you buy your feed in bulk cheaper? One of those big bags or even 500-1000 lbs pickup load and shovel it off into an old stock tank under a shed or at least covered with a tarp outside.

FWIW, I bought cracked corn/DDG (60/40) yesterday @ $180/ton. My old pickup has a 8' combo box on it. I can get a little over 2 tons in a load and just drive the pickup under the shed and feed it off the pickup. Fed 10 buckets this morning. The old pickup is like a self-propelled grain bin!  :D

heck we can buy 55 lb bags of cleaned corn up here at the new TSC store for $5.89 a bag. We only add a few bags of it to the ground barley to add fat content.
