Yikes this hit about an hour ago,not too sure what we will or won't find come morning, but adding this wind to our freezing rain we had just might be fun sailing or skating.....

At 10:45 PM a strong cold front extends from Red Deer to St Paul. This front has been charging southwards tonight and has produced winds gusts of 100 km/h over central Alberta earlier this evening. This front will push into southern Alberta and reach Calgary by midnight.

This cold front will bring gusty winds of 90 to 100 km/h to extreme southern Alberta overnight before the front moves out of the province early Saturday morning.

That wind blew through here during the night. It's slowed down some, but still gusting pretty good. I told my husband as he went out the door to make sure his hat was in the locked position or he'd be chasing it across the yard. Other than the wind, though, it's quite nice outside.

I've been watching the weather for Canada-- and it looks like for the last 2-3 days some areas of Alberta (Lethbridge, Calgary, Milk River) have been having 45-55 degree temps with winds gusting to 50-60 mph...

Do you guys have any snow left :???: ....Conditions like that is really snow cutting weather....

We've had a couple days of thawing weather where it didn't freeze (or barely) and today the wind is whooping and supposed to get to 38 degrees...Then a couple cool days-- and then some 40 degree weather is predicted...They are saying it will be an early Feb. thaw...

Got woke up around 2:40 am from my pager going off for a fire south of us. Didn't call us out, but had 8 different agencies out.
Wind was NOT helping at all. Listening to it sounded pretty bad.

Found our cows out this morning. Wind had pushed them into a gate and they just pushed it over.
Got them in by driving by with a hay bale, then fixed the gate after they were all in.

It wasn't windy yet this morning when I put on the cross country skis and went for a tour in the pasture. It hit while I was out there, but lucky thing it was behind me coming home. Once I got out in the open, I just quit using my poles, stood still, put my arms in the air, and it pushed me a couple of hundred feet at a time all the way home! I was sailing. :) :) :) :)

If it wasn't so much work to go back west into the wind, I'd have done it again. What a blast. (pun intended  )

Reports had around 60 people on that fire. Have a couple of different reports on the amount burned, let's just say 18,000-20,000 acres.
One lady took a couple of shots of it and it looked pretty wicked.

This link is NOT working.
Go to www.krtv.com and that will take you to see the pics of that fire.
