it now seems to be the norm for the administration that once claimed to be want transparency.. (before they were elected)

moved from another thread...
With respect to secret meetings, have any of those been denied the way Cheney denied his with the energy exec's?

yep.. like this one...

The Obama administration’s explanation:

The administration ought to be able to hold secret meetings in the White House, said Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt.

In 2007, Obama promised on his first day to: “launch the most sweeping ethics reform in history to make the White House the people’s house and send the Washington lobbyists back to K Street.”

The day after the Inauguration, Obama issued a memo saying, “my Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government.”
file that under broken promise number #BPseries'2009-546908795861045

ever wonder about "secret oil meetings",.. like..
Presidential candidate Barack Obama had summoned some of the CEOs of the top oil companies to a secret meeting to talk about energy policy.

After a long day of campaigning on July 8, candidate Barack Obama arrived at his Chicago headquarters for a three-hour brainstorming session about a suddenly hot issue: energy and climate change.

He had summoned a cross section of experts, including top executives from three utilities and two oil companies, the chief energy economist of an investment bank, a climate scientist, a California energy and environment expert, an oil consultant-historian, and several campaign staffers.

( the meeting was in Chicago on the 8th, although there was a similar meeting on the 10th in D.C. )

or
Obama administration officials have rejected a watchdog group’s request for a list of healthcare industry executives who’ve been meeting secretly in the White House with Obama staffers to discuss healthcare changes being drafted there and in Congress.

No, the one that Cheney and the oil exec's couldn't remember. You know the one where some of them had to be reminded by a Congressional committee that even though they weren't under oath they could still be prosecuted for lying to a Congressional committee. Suddenly their memories got better and Cheny cited executive privilege saying he didn't have to say anything basically. That one.

Joe Biden: No 'private meetings,' just meetings closed to the press

Possibly a very important policy change quietly emerged in the daily schedule of Vice President Joe Biden today.

We've especially noted Biden's innumerable "private meetings" that are closed to the press because, well, they're private.

And we've wondered aloud how this Democratic VP's private meetings with unnamed people on unnamed subjects differs from the private meetings with unnamed people that his evil predecessor had that got so many Democratic senators and representatives worried about nefarious secrets.

On one recent long weekend, devoted an entire Monday to "private meetings" that are closed press in his Delaware home.

According to the White House schedule, Biden will not spend the remainder of the workday in private meetings that are closed press.

Instead: "The Vice President will spend the remainder of the day in meetings that are closed press."

yep.. they remember it.. they just don't acknowledge secret meetings happened.. :? :? :???:

WASHINGTON — The White House and congressional leaders are preparing a detailed health care proposal designed to win passage without Republican support if GOP lawmakers fail to embrace bipartisan compromises at next week's summit.

Still having the "behind closed doors" meetings on the Health Care reform Bill, they want to ram through.

I wouldn't view a "secret meeting" when a person was a candidate in the same light as I would after they were elected in reference to one of your postings beginning "candidate Obama". jmo

I didn't notice that.

But really, what was he doing "summoning" oil executives to a secret meeting as a candidate. Did the other candidates have accees to the same opportunity? Were bribes offered? Any confidential information gather? Any Bias towards the Republican opponent gathered? Did they help him write his platform?

You would have to be extremely arrogant to rail against the sitting President and Admin. for these "secret meetings" and having the audacity to think that you are entitled to do the same, as only a candidate.

Very unprofessional and maybe illegal.

oops.. then you missed this GEM...

The administration ought to be able to hold secret meetings in the White House, “such as an elected official interviewing for an administration position or an ambassador coming for a discussion on issues that would affect international negotiations,” said Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt.

White House refuses to disclose information on meetings with coal executives
CREW filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request [PDF] to the Secret Service on May 15, requesting “all records relating to any visit” made to the White House by the CEOs of 16 major coal companies and lobby groups.

In their response to the request [PDF], the Secret Service claimed that the logs qualify as presidential and vice-presidential records and thus aren’t covered by FOIA—and could also be protected under “presidential communications privilege.”

Federal judges have rejected that argument twice, but litigation continues. The Obama White House has had two opportunities—in late January and May—to change policy on this subject when it filed papers on the case in appeals court.

“The similarities with the Vice President Cheney’s Energy Task Force are really striking,” she continued. “t’s particularly ironic because when President Obama was running for office, he made a point, at one point, of criticizing the Energy Task Force meetings and said, when big oil companies are invited into the White House for secret energy meetings,

Obama White House breaks another promise to reject Bush secrecy

The citizen ethics group has threatened to file a lawsuit against Obama as early as today despite an administration claim that it was reviewing policies.

But then the other day, as we duly noted here, Biden's White House schedule suddenly stopped listing "private meetings." Instead, it began calling them "meetings that are closed press." A distinction without any practical difference in terms of contradicting candidate Obama's promised governing transparency.

But here’s one of my favorites: Obama constantly criticized President Bush for his “secret meetings”. In 2006, he said “When big oil companies are invited into the White House for secret energy meetings, it’s no wonder they end up with billions in tax breaks.” But Obama refuses to release information about his own secret meetings with oil executives or health care executives at the White House.

but my all time favorite:
Biden Holding a Secret Meeting on Transparency
Los Angeles Times: “Today’s Biden schedule highlight is a meeting with the chief of transparency for economic recovery. But, unfortunately, the transparency meeting is non-transparent, closed to the press.”

Was "Candidate" Obama looking for a big oil campaign donation in that secret meeting, that he wanted nobody to know about? :?
While out campaigning he was telling the people on the street he answered to no Big Business because it was those who donated $5 and $10 at a time, he answers to as they were the ones that elected him. But is he listening to 65% of voters now on his health care bill? NO he is holding close door meetings with Big Pharmas, Union Bosses, and special interest groups who consider themselves the ones that got Obama elected. He campaigned on holding Fat Cat Bankers accountable for their actions but is he holding Goldman Sash And JP Morgan Fat Cat executives to limited bonuses after taking bailout money? NO, he "doesn't begrudge their bonuses" Why? Goldman and JP Morgan were top donors to his campaign.

This guy is a liar and a cheat and he and the Dems lives by the rule "do as I say not as I do". When things go against them, they blame someone else and continues down the same stink filled close door road they started down over a year ago. And their blind supporters point to the past to excuse the President of Change. :x

Obama's Oil Spill
March 31, 2008
Obama says he doesn't take money from oil companies.

We say that's a little too slick.
Summary
In a new ad, Obama says, "I don’t take money from oil companies."

Technically, that's true, since a law that has been on the books for more than a century prohibits corporations from giving money directly to any federal candidate. But that doesn’t distinguish Obama from his rivals in the race.

It's true that Obama doesn't take money directly from oil companies, but then, no presidential, House or Senate candidate does. They can't: Corporations have been prohibited from contributing directly to federal candidates since the Tillman Act became law in 1907.

Obama has, however, accepted more in contributions from individuals who work for, or whose spouses work for, companies in the oil and gas industry, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

but in the several articles I read by fact check.. it seems "slick Obama" bent the truth alot on his and others connections to big oil...

while the topic is secret meetings.. it does show an Obama pattern of lies..

Now that the Supreme Court changed the rules on Campaign donations it will be interesting to see what happens. As in who will have a drop in "private" donations, as the big corporations won't have to have their individual employees donating for them.
