The brand on the mule. Not sure what it is called, but it looks like a rocking R umbrella connected.

Taking in the last bunch (mob) to precondition calves, which are all heifers.

Technically, I guess these eleven calves which have been weaned for a month would be the very last ones to vaccinate.
Thepiedpiperinthelead.jpg

Peach played the part of the Pied Piper and piloted the Polaris in the lead. She coaxed them to the corral and back again
while Yellowstone and I followed along to make sure they all cooperated.
Rewardedwithgrainwhentheyarrivedbac.jpg

Rewarding them with grain after they had been poked with vaccine.
We got them back just in time, as the dark rain clouds turned loose.
Theyalsohaveaccesstoabaleofalfalfa.jpg

The weaned calves have access to a bale of second cutting alfalfa, along with their almost five pounds of 18 percent creep feed per day.
They seem to be faring pretty well on their ration.

It's kind of a relief for all of us to be done with this part of the job for another year. I probably should gather up a few more cowboys and do the preconditioning a little faster, but we rather enjoy doing it at our own unstressful speed. The cattle get handled in gentle fashion, and we know that each calf received the proper dosages of vaccine.

The eleven calves were weaned early because their mothers were sold. The cows were older or had other reasons to get a trip to the sale barn.

I agree with you about the extra help. If we can do it ourselves or with one other person to help the cattle are a lot quieter to handle in the corral than with a bigger crew. It's a lot less stressful on me too not having to keep a bigger crew organized.

Glad you done Soap, now all you have to do is count the money rollin' in until preg test time. :D

The brand on that mule looks like RUAT connected to me, with the top of the T being the horizontal part of the A.

This could very well be. In that case it makes a question, "Are You A T.........." The next question would be, "what doe the T stand for?" Now you have sparked my curiousity.

Trader? (not yet)

Tumbler? (hopefully never)

Tillicum? (Stick Siwash for friend)

The list could go on.

Hopefully Sandhusker allows you to at least carry the cheque from the sale barn to the bank. :D
