these upwardly mobile terrorists from the UK middle class seem to frustrate the thoery that dead end suicidal terrorists are born in the most helplessly blighted regions of the world. Perhaps they really just hate us.

The guy I'm dating lived in London for a decade or more. And he's Irish. He says the British have the kind of culture where it's nearly impossible for the immigrants to really be accepted and that we can't compare with the US where we are truly a melting pot. There's a lot of antagonism towards immigrants in England and a very posh, British, snobby elite that one cannot be accepted into, regardless of schooling, accomplishments, wealth.
Who cares R2. They still can't go around killing civilians. Terrorist can find any reason to be hellish. None of them justify their actions. They need to be singled out, found, discovered, what ever and then they need to be executed.

It's a question of why homegrown terrorists are so virulent in the UK and also whether we can expect the same here in the US.

Maybe it's a case of having a higher percentage of muslims in the UK, all the more reason to grant their wishes and not let them immigrate to North America.

They don't want our lifestyle anyway!

10-20% of my highschool was muslim... I can't remember the exact numbers anymore and of course it varied from year to year but I grew up with a lot of them and they ranged from typical Chicago suburban kids (Which is not a compliment  ) all the way to a girl whose father forbad her from going to school dances and showing any skin abover her ankels, below her wrists and I think she had to wear turtle necks. She was a very "normal" kid in that she had the same interests as everyone else but she had to deal with the more orthadox expression of religion than her Muslim counterparts...

What I guess I am trying to say is that a lot do adjust just fine to western life and some don't... When you have Paddilas in this country "working" with Al Queda on a dirty bomb plot you have to look beyond the arab/asian muslims to converts in this country.

R2, First, let's note that you never rationalized terror activities even if you explore a causality.

Is your sigot, Irish enough he struggles saying the number 8. I have a friend that I always torment by asking questions that elicit the answer 8. He's caught on to what I'm doing so he'll say "I won't seaeaeay it." 8 = say on the Irish can't say list.

I wasn't aware of the segregation you describe in the UK - we always figure the US has the corner on race problems. Hopefully the transparency in the US is helping resolve some issues albeit slooowly.
I think I might rather suffer a fork in my eye than be admitted to the Brittish elite, but fortunately they have more disdain for me than I them.
