Embassy attacks premeditated, 50 arrested, Libyan president says

Libya’s President Mohamed Magariaf said the investigation “leaves us with no doubt” embassy attack was planned.

Libya arrested about 50 people – many of them foreigners – in connection with the deadly attack at the US consulate that left the American ambassador and three of his staff members dead, CBS News reported today.

Appearing today on “Face the Nation,” Libya’s President Mohamed Magariaf said the investigation “leaves us with no doubt” the attack was not spontaneous.

“It was planned, definitely, it was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago, and they were planning this criminal act since their arrival,” Magariaf told CBS.

On Tuesday, an armed mob stormed the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya and killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three staffers.

Many blame a low budget, independent film called “The Innocence of Muslim” – which depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a reviled figure – for triggering the protests.

Yet, Magariaf cast doubt on that theory and said the militants who fired on the consulate with rocket-propelled grenades entered Libya “from different directions” months ago.

UN Ambassador Susan Rice countered that declaration, however, and said the US has no evidence that proves the attack was calculated.

Ambassador Susan Rice needs to first apologize to Magariaf for doubting his LYBIAN INVESTIGATION that was right and then tell the Congress who told her to go out and promote the lies she told. Victoria Nuland might have emailed her concerns and got the truth scrubbed but I doubt she told the Ambassador to go on 5 Sunday morning talk shows pushing the OBAMA'S WHITE HOUSE LYING TALKING POINTS. The Congress need to find who sent her out and who gave the Stand Down Command and I'm betting it is one of two people if not both Obama and Hillary.

The Dems want to claim the Republicans are making the issue "political" but is that not what the Dems did when they LIED to protect the results of the 2012 election for Obama and protected Hillary's reputation so she could run in 2016? All I see the Republicans doing is trying to get to the truth so the families can have some closure, something both Hillary and Obama promised but BLEW IT to protect themselves. To the Dems it is all about protecting Hillary and forget that people died because of hers and Obama's INCOMPETENCE.

I agree.... we all know about the coverup...

but there are questions we do not know...

who ordered the stand-down... is difficult.. there were several instances of troops ready or being prepped to go..

for instance..

the small force in Tripoli..

the CIA Annex's teams..

and then we need to know why others were not called and who decided not to call up those available assets...

the fact is.. it wasn't a time issue... when an embassy is attacked.. our personnel need to be "extracted"... and we have teams trained to do this...

who decided not to call them ?

I believe the answers lie with the fired generals and admirals..

the question I would have asked Obama at the press conference was... "Why did you decided to change the talking points memo?"

it would have backed him into a corner.. we know he knew the truth that night...

so asking why? leaves him with two choices.. lie and blame someone else... or come up with an excuse..

the situation in Libya on Sept 11th was worse then reported...

JERUSALEM – Did the State Department scrub information about a dramatic incident the night of the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi attack in which U.S. Embassy staff 400 miles away in Tripoli evacuated their residential compound under possible terror threat?

The threat was taken so seriously that, according to a key embassy staffer, communications equipment was dismantled and hard drives were smashed with an ax.

The scene was first brought to light in congressional testimony last week by Gregory Hicks, the former U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, but it remains largely unreported by news media.

The incident also was not mentioned in the State Department probe nor was it previously reported in news accounts of the attack, which the Obama administration first claimed was a result of popular protests about an anti-Muhammad video.

In his testimony, Hicks said that about three hours after the attack began on the U.S. facility in Benghazi, the embassy staff in Tripoli noticed Twitter feeds asserting that the terror group Ansar al-Sharia was responsible. Hicks said there was also a call on the social media platform for an attack on the embassy in Tripoli.

“We had always thought that we were … under threat, that we now have to take care of ourselves, and we began planning to evacuate our facility,” he said.

“When I say our facility, I mean the State Department residential compound in Tripoli, and to consolidate all of our personnel … at the annex in Tripoli.”

Hicks said that he “immediately telephoned Washington that news afterwards and began accelerating our effort to withdraw from the Villas compound and move to the annex.”

He recalled how his team “responded with amazing discipline and courage in Tripoli in organizing withdrawal.”

Continued Hicks: “I have vivid memories of that. I think the most telling, though, was of our communications staff dismantling our communications equipment to take with us to the annex and destroying the classified communications capability.

“Our office manager, Amber Pickens, was everywhere that night just throwing herself into some task that had to be done. First she was taking a log of what we were doing,” he said.

“Then she was loading magazines, carrying ammunition to the – carrying our ammunition supply to … our vehicles, and then she was smashing hard drives with an ax.”

The vivid, nearly unprecedented scene, however, was not reported in the State Department’s description of the Tripoli embassy’s response the night of the Benghazi attack.

The section of the State Department probe titled “Embassy Tripoli Response” simply says that upon notification of the attack in Benghazi, the U.S. Embassy set up a command center and notified Washington.
