I have been cutting cedar posts out west of town a ways. Tonight the kids and I went out to bring home the four wheeler and we found an old ewe. She was standing in the road with her head down. She hasnt been sheared in a day or two and was pert near wool blind. The area she was in doesnt have water and she must'a come a ways since her last drink. We got her gathered up and tied down on the flat bed and got her home. She has a wound/abcess on her jaw that is badly infected. I sheared her head enough so she can see and cleaned up her wound with hydrogen peroxide and gave her 5 ml of penicillin. She has drank half a 5 gallon bucket of water and is laying down with her head up tonight. My question for any of ya'll who are sheep smart...... what should i do next? I'll call the vet Monday. Til then any thoughts? I have Oxcymyicin 200 or penicillin. I plan to treat the infected wound with KRS to kill the maggots. Not much of a sheep herder so any thoughts would be appreciated.
