Hubby and some friends got the pairs in this weekend. Calves worked and weighted. Cows poured.
Heifers averaged 549#. Steers averaged 543#. If we took out the 11 head that were under 500# our average would have been 571# for both groups. Go figure.

Nice calves :D . Looks like you had a cool day with no dust to haul them. Did you sell them privately, or are they selling at a sale barn? Hope they do well for you :D .

If you would take out all the ones under that 671 pounder they would have averaged 671.

I hope they sell/sold well cris - pretty tough market to sell into. Did they go to billings? Curious to know where they end up.

Id say they are in good hands. I don't care for many sale barn owners, but Don Allen (owner) is a difrerent class of people. I think you picked
a good place to sell them.

Do you mean Lyle Allen :???: Lyle owns the Lewistown sale barn- and used to manage the one up here...Good man... Used to market a lot of horses for me.... One of the true old timers that stands by his word- something that sadly is getting further and farther between in the greed of this industry anymore :( .......

His nephew Jaxon was in the Worlds Cattle Auctioneering finals this year...

Thanks for the correction. Don was his dad, knew him too.

Lyle owns Lewistown. His wife's sister is a good friend of mine.

But the consensus is the same...he's a good man.

Here is how our calves did.
20 steer calves avg. 475# got $.96
3 steers calves avg.565# got $.90
5 heifer calves avg. 448# got $.80

Culls were 35 to 46 cents a pound.

Our kids calves did pretty well too.
3 steers avg. 491# got $.92
4 heifer calves avg. 495# got $.80

From the looks of the radar this morning- and the new snow storm moving into your area- it may be a good thing you got them sold when you did I Luv Herfrds....

This cold and nasty weather hangs in long- and there might be a lot of calves moving early...38 degrees here today- breezy- predicting showers- and flat out chilly...Just glad I got the community pasture cows trailed home yesterday... :)

It quit snowing here a while ago.
After the experience of slidding a truck and trailer full of calves backwards down a hill we have always sold the calves the first of October.
Glad we missed the snow.
