This morning started early because I have a road trip to Quesnel. I got up at 3 am to get the ponies fed and everything ready to go so I can catch the first ferry across at 5:30. I just nicely got up and was getting my chore cloths on when I turned around there was Lil Joe (my little moose bale bandit) staring in my bedroom window!!!   Scared the crap out of me!!! My first fleeting initial thought was the horses were out!!... please not today!!
Clara and Li Joe haven't been around for a few weeks so it was very much of a surprise to see them today. I'm happy they're still hanging out around here and are doing ok.
Sorry no pics from 3am, didn't have the camera with me at the time :? .

Did you hear a peep out of him? Is that the ferry across Francois Lake? I would have guessed it would be too frozen. I know you showed us a ferry I should have payed more attention.

In rutting season , a bull moose will go after anything that moves , they can be very scary to come across one up in the bush , that is not backing off

A moose was peeking in your bedroom window at 3'00 A'M huh-you weren't calling were you lol. I'm way more scared of cows than bulls-when the hair comes up their back it's game on. That bull Ty shot this fall was with a cow and calf-she was a real witch to get to move off. Alot of horses don't like to be artound moose for whatever reason. The moose are wintering good out this way too.

When I was a young whipper shipper we had a moose take a disliking to a Cockshutt 1900 tractor idling (noisy Gimmy engine). Moose just have no respect for anything.

Not too much other than kept us away. Couple of times he hit it but those old tractors had metal in them. After a few hours he moved on and we went to work. I remember I think because I had to pick roots while he held the tractor hostage. Must have been about 10-12 years old.

Yep, the ferry across the Francois. The Francois isn't froze yet this year. There is ice in it but its not froze solid, even if it was the ferry still goes through and breaks the ice.

The horses here were scared of them at first, but they're quite use to the moose hanging around now.
