I voted yes-- Football is one of the best sports to teach teamwork and team cooperation-- you can be the greatest athlete in the world and you will still be nothing if you don't have and don't learn how to work with 10+ other teammates...

Besides its a good way to take the "Wuss" out of a kid......

My son had scholarship offers to every college in the country until he blew his knee his Senior year- still played college ball, but was more limited in choices- and he says he wouldn't have traded the experience for anything, even with the knee problem........

I vote no. You already are in one contact sport. Don't ruin your body at a young age. You've got a lot of living yet to do. (see OT's remark about his sons knees)...

Your schedule already sounds full to me. Do them and do them well. If
you add one more, it might hurt what you are already accomplishing.

ACS,
my vote is with OT, Football is the greatest TEAM sport because you learn what a team is. I love the wrestling, track, the individual stuff, but football is it. Had the privilege of playing for 6 years, wish I could have played more. The only problem with that is when you start getting into big time stuff is there are people out there that weigh 250 plus that can outrun me. I guess that is where MCG gets her attitude. My senior year in high school we had a new coach who said that I was not big enough to run the ball like I did and he made me a guard. We thought this was the dumbest man in the world but he was right. I was trying to run over people all the time because I liked to hit. I got all of that I could take playing guard and inside LB against kids that sometimes had 100 pounds on me. Go for it boy, you will not regret one minute of it, hockey players are wusses

sw well lace them up and we'll see lol. My son rides bulls, plays hockey and made the high school football team in grade nine. His take on football-he's a tailback and kick returner-not enough action and too slow. The rule of thumb is if you aren't quick enough or smart enough to play hockey you play football. Most hockey players go out for football to get in shape before hockey camp-then they go play a man's game lol. Obviously getting hit by guys 100 lbs heavier than you rattled the old pea a few to many times lmao.

They have camps for that :???: I thought all you did was play keepaway with a frozen horse turd until you got tired- then started a fight so you could go rest in "the box" Then they throw in this pink line- blue line stuff and icing, (what else do you do on ice :???: ) so you get a free swing at the ref....

By all means play Shower-your a hockey player- as for sw and OT-like I said lace them up-you might as well line up and piss on the Maple Leaf flag as run down hockey. I can see it's wayyy too fast a game for an aging old R-calfer to follow. Christ anybody who has baseball for a national sport is easily entertained-watching a bunch of droided up millionaires run uip and down a field with a pigskin full of air -too funny. And what's up with 4 downs-at least we get our ten yards in three up here in Canada lol.

I've knocked down both a hockey player and a football player-the hockey player was annoying me, and the football player just deserved it. lol.

OT, I beleive that pucks are now made of synthetic rubber, and Goalie's do not get penalties. lol.

I knew I would get some dander up, you guys are so predictable. We took on the varsity bball squad when we were sophmores, we got tired of thier bragging, we beat them, fair and square cause we could out run them on their court, course most of us fouled out, we played a contact sport. We played hockey on weekends to stay in shape

Our coach liked ranch kids, said we were used to contact already, LOL....

Yep, I limp around and run to the Chiropractor, all the time thinking fondly of those Football and Rodeo days, LOL.........

ACS,

Live your own life, follow what you really enjoy. Try a few things to see if they are enjoyable. It isn't our decision to make in any way. But, just like Hockey, though it is a game, the weeks getting ready for the first game are work.

I wouldn't want my kid to play football, just from the injury point of view....but it wasn't my choice. LOL His either, our schools too small to have a football team.
I'd say, when the time comes for football practice to start, go give it a try, if you don't like it..you'll know, if you do, you'll know. If you find your schedules way to busy to do the things you love to do, you'll hafta prioritize...that's the way life works.

One more word of advice, Don't let peer pressure or pressure from the coach make your choice for you. Do it because YOU want to. NOT because someone else thinks you should, or shouldn't.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Lilly's post reminded me of something Dr. Laura said just the other day to a mother whose daughter didn't want to continue playing softball.
She said, "Why do you think she has to finish out the season?" I think we all think that kids should finish something they start, but it is a good question and according to Dr. Laura it is time wasted that could be spent on other enjoyable things. Many times it is the parents that want the kid to do it, so the kid does. In that scenerio it is the wrong reason.

More of Dr. Laura's psychobabble -I don't think I'd take the advice of an amateur porn queen on how to raise my kids. When you committ to a team for a season you better gut it out and finish what you started. I think this it's okay to quit mentality is too prevalent in our society-just look at the divorce rate. Dr. Phil is another wingnut in my opinion-I had one of his books-what a load of crap.Alot of kids have more in them than we give them credit for-a challenge once in awhile in their life sometimes lets their inner strength come through.
