In Toronto, the city elected as mayor a "new face" - Rob Ford, one who represents a severe back-lash against the old "tax and spend" mentality.

His main rival is a homosexual who recently married his male partner. One Smitherman advocate accused Ford of "playing up" his heterosexual appeal. I guess since Ford could not be accused of being "homophobic", this was the best way the reporter could show Ford in a "negative" light.

To say that Toronto is not exactly known to be a conservative place would be the understatement of the year, or perhaps century. And yet they elected a Conservative mayor! It's our biggest city.

Does this election outcome indicate a general turning away from the pervasive, socialistic influence that has permeated our societies for the past 20 or 30 years?

If it does indicate that shift, is it too late?
