That's not as near as visible (and thus, re-election ploy) as handing out a physical check.

The more I hear about the economic stimulus package promoted by Pres. Bush and the U.S. House, the less I like it. The money will have to be borrowed (again), which puts the U.S. deeper into a financial hole caused by the G.O.P.'s misguided policies of the past seven years. Endless wars cause endless expenditures. Corporate pals of Bush & Cheney get rich while the middle class ekes out an existence (if we're lucky) and gets foreclosed on if not.
Shane Mason wonders if increasing the already record deficit and urging consumers to buy more foreign-made products is the way to go. Don't we need jobs?
"I would assert that a better use and bigger stimuli would be to rebuild infrastructure. Remember those bridges and levies that we are up in arms about for two weeks after every tragedy. What if we spent the 150 billion on rehabilitating our infrastructure, creating high paying jobs in the labor sector which would spur the economy? Killing two birds with one stone sounds like a better idea to me".
