But it makes too much sense...the politicians would never go for it.

Why don't they just reduce the GAS TAX...??????????

That's not as near as visible (and thus, re-election ploy) as handing out a physical check.

Let's see. The highways and bridges in this country are detoriating. That money is supposed to go to building, maintaining, and repairing them. That's not a tax to cut back on. Remember the little incident in Minnesota a while back? And the Feds demanded every state inspect the bridges? Well, they've now cut back on those demands and will give the states more time to inspect and, by the way, they don't have to make public which bridges are unsafe.

Here's an idea. Let's put a windfall profit tax on oil companies. EXXON just reported the largest profit for any American company in history again. Would you be surprised that if the Democratics take the White house and it looks like they'll move for a windfall profit tax, the price of gasoline will go down?

That would put all the bureaucrats GW has hired to collect it- along with all the bureaucrats they're going to need to hire to handle the rebates out of work  And we can't be having out of work bureacrats in the biggest bureaucratic administration in the history of the US

Faster Horses--you need to catch up with this new Republican "fiscal conservatism"........ :p

I wonder what it will actually cost to write those cheques? I'm guessing 40% of the proposed funds go to the 'administration' black hole.

Yep-- this is just a politics look good- feel good ploy by both parties- and again the taxpayer (or our Grandkids) gets the shaft...They don't have the money- so will have to borrow it from China/Saudi Arabia- and the folks can get their check- fill their vehicle with Saudi gas- and run to Walmart and buy more products from China and India (can't find anything from USA anymore since the globalists sold out our country)- and the only ones getting any stimulus will be China, Saudi Arabia and India...During that same time Asia and the Arab world are pouring money into Wallstreet to prop it up- and own more shares of US corporate and economic infrastructure....

Soon we won't need to fight the Muslims or the Chinese- they will have bought us up... :(

I found a couple of Mt-Wyo blogs that put it quite well... I agree with the fellow who says it would much better be used rebuilding US infrastructure and paying US workers to do so....Kind of a modern day WPA...

But that won't get the votes giving out money will  :(

The more I hear about the economic stimulus package promoted by Pres. Bush and the U.S. House, the less I like it. The money will have to be borrowed (again), which puts the U.S. deeper into a financial hole caused by the G.O.P.'s misguided policies of the past seven years. Endless wars cause endless expenditures. Corporate pals of Bush & Cheney get rich while the middle class ekes out an existence (if we're lucky) and gets foreclosed on if not.

Shane Mason wonders if increasing the already record deficit and urging consumers to buy more foreign-made products is the way to go. Don't we need jobs?
"I would assert that a better use and bigger stimuli would be to rebuild infrastructure. Remember those bridges and levies that we are up in arms about for two weeks after every tragedy. What if we spent the 150 billion on rehabilitating our infrastructure, creating high paying jobs in the labor sector which would spur the economy? Killing two birds with one stone sounds like a better idea to me".

I had a chance today to have a converstion with several folks including many ranchers/farmers...No one knows what is going to happen in the cattle industry- but none is optomistic the way the economy is going....Especially since with the inflation/deflation of the dollar their operating costs/loans have almost doubled-while the value of their property/cattle has devalued-- and many banks are scared on loaning those much larger amounts and are tightening their loans....

None believe this Repub/Democrat stimulus package will do anything except maybe for Wallstreet, Wallmart, and China and India....

One local rancher (whose father was the longterm Republican head of the party- along with being a great County Commissioner) could not believe where GW and his policies have led us....

And none believed any of the present candidates have any workable answers that are going to help- as they think even if they have a fix- it will be too little- too late- as those working on big operating notes will have already gone under.....

As one put it in describing the whole works of candidates-ELECTILE DYSFUNCTION   :( :( :(
