That said you will probably get faster growth from the Char if they are adapted to your climate.
Lots of variables.
Thanks BMR. There are lots of variables and actually, I have been doing some on-line research and while coming up with all sorts of interesting stuff to read, I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for. :?
The Charolais here definitely grow faster than the Mestizos (which have some Brahman blood) and are heavier at maturity than the locals as well. Of course they require a bit more work on our part and a better diet too if they're going to develop properly.
The origins of my question relate to some of the crossbreeding I'm doing with the Charolais and the mestizos as I run only Charolais bulls with the mixed-blood cows. Honestly, I'm somewhat concerned about the size of the ole' gene pool for my Charolais and think some new blood may be in order as I look forward.
I'm trying to decide if I want to introduce some purer Brahman blood to those Charolais X Mestizo offspring or go with something like Senepol, which are also a decent tropical species and of Bos taurus heritage versus Bos indicus.
