Those smaller hawks can be ferocious for their size.

I have a friend who raises a couple of 100,000 quail each year in flight pens with nylon netting for cover. Those hawks swoop down and make the quail fly into the netting, then catch the quail, and eat them through the net.

Some of them are smaller than the quail.
Boy Mike your sure right about the little hawks being ferocious...last summer we were out in our yard having a weiner roast when we listened to a bird murder happen, small hawk and I'm not sure what the other one was, couldn't see for the trees,Anyway the hawk I assume was attacking a nest, mama bird tried to defend herself,oh it was awful, the hawk attacked and attacked, and the other bird screamed in pain...we've never heard anything like it and hope not to again.....

Mrs. Greg, During the traumatic experience at your weiner roast, the attitudes towards nature may have affected some small children permanently.

NEXT TIME LET THE DANG HAWK HAVE A HOTDOG!

THAT MAMA BIRD COULD STILL BE LIVING IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU!

No charge for first consultation.

Humor today is a good thing...thx for consult Dr......I was wondering why did I bother posting the hawk story

It's OK. Sometimes we have to release our guilt and anxiety. You will be fine before you know it.......................

It's those children I'm worried about.

I am still trying to figure this bird out. Searching for a Blue Darter on the net has leaded me several places but I have not found a good picture. However, I have found a page-showing silhouette of several raptors and this bird may have been a falcon. I have not found a silhouette of a kite yet but I am still looking.

Ok I found a Mississippi Kite and he looked alot like one but he was not as bid as described in this link www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i3290id.html

he was very light brested but the undersids of the wing was browner and on the back of his wings was almost black except for the trailing edges. and down his back.

Ok I am sure now. It was a young Mississippi kite.
They nest in May through July so this one must have been a year old. how many years does it take for them to be full grown?
