We just got 8 inches of snow and it's still coming down! Now this may not be that thrilling to those of you heading east but I am telling you it's exciting!!!! We see snow like this once every 5 or 6 years. I'm going outside to build a fort!!!!!YAhooo......

Just a guess Judith, but I'd guess your snow didn't come with -24 temperature and a wind? I'm holed up in the house for the day. Work tomorrow will come soon enough, and I'll get all the snow and cold I need! Have fun making the snow fort.

No it's nice and warm out. Pretty sure it is going to rain soon as the snow flakes are getting bigger by the second. The snow stuck together really well though. Brax is out there working on it as we speak. I was sent in to do hot chocolate duty and get the fire going. We are pretty wet! It a fun day for us though :)

I hope your powerlines and trees stand up to the snow Judith, and enjoy.
It's a bit crisp here right now, -35 and a bit of a wind. This weather might fix those pesky pine beetles!

Hey Silver,
The trees are snapping off like twigs. Anything that was in the trees from the windstorms is coming down from the weight of the snow. I'm always listening for that unmistakable snap when I am out feeding the ponies.

I'm hoping that those rotten beetles take a beating. I only went up to the property in Prince George once this year and the beetles hadnt feasted on the trees there at that time. I've got to wait till spring now to see what happened over the summer. I'm going to plant a bunch of non-pine beetle friendly trees as well. Hopefully that will take care of some of the little brats. I need to figure out the best pasture mix to spread also. With such a short season the folks down here have no idea what should be planted.

I love snow when I am sitting inside and looking at it with a cup of hot chocholate in my hand. Or when I am playing with my dogs or daughter in it.. Liked hiking in it when I lived in Montana but hated working in it.... And don't like working in it now either but as long as I am not calving it isn't too bad..

The nice thing about snow is it gives everything a clean, put to rest look around here. The fields are brown all winter from the chisel plws and dising and there is just not life except the scatterd evergreens and wheat and rye fields.... Well, and the cows here and there.... The signs of spring of the ditches being burned out and those first blades of prairie grass coming up int eh burn, and the south facing hills greening up... Well, I don't care for snow than but Jan and Feb... I like the snow.

It was -40 with the wind today, so there were frost bit noses at the feedlot. What a lousy day! The aussie girl says she will never complain about the cold in Australia again!

It's -33 here this morning (compared to -24 yesterday) without factoring in wind chill. It's always colder at the feedlot so should be a lovely day. Aussie and I have early loadout so will find out first hand shortly.

DJL bundle up! How do you even move cows on the feedlot in dee cold. I would think the moos would be frozen solid and be unable to move!

Judith I look like a Russian bank robber with my rabbit hat and full face mask, but I'm nice and warm. When it's that cold, the cattle get checked for pnemonia and such sicknesses, and I don't worry too much about anything else. If the cattle are bedded and chewing their cud, I'm happy to let them. Sorting continues daily, which isn't near as much fun as a nice warm day, but it gets done. I hope it warms up soon!
