Still grazing at the neighbors. They are spread over a section and a half with draws and sloughs and both canola and barley stubble with some windrows.

They are fairly happy but my only choice for protein is tubs and I think we are a little short. When they come home there are plenty of options including barley. In the mean time they have spare back fat to supplement the lick tubs.

Per why don't you mix up some of that Bossy Bloomer that BMR uses-it might be a little more cost effective than tubs. The only tub we have used that they didn't over concume were Orwig's.

Good idea NR I never thought of that. BMR, I know you shared the recipe with me once but could you send it again?

Just today I was going to accuse you of hogging the Chinooks but I see I am wrong.

Big Muddy Bossy Bloomer is :

680kg canola meal
300 kg salt
20kg AFA/canola oil

Works pretty good, the mill calls it 24% beef supp Burgess and I landed it in for $268/tonne this fall. Slightly cheaper then tubs but slightly more work, but not much. :D

What percentage is the protein in that BMR?

edit.. Duh, I guess I should have comprehended what I read before my typing finger went into motion.

Is it in pellet or cube form? Do they hold together well?

23.9%+or- .01 :D

It's in meal form. the oil is to help keep from blowing away. I feed it in tubs from my lick tub days. I am eying up a old water tank on the side hill to cut open for another feeder.

Thanks, we've got a warm 60 to 70 km breeze blowing from the east today and it just started raining. Might be the begining of the end of the Morrison Meadow clean-up project.

Chinooking today but plenty to melt. Thanks for the recipe. The tubs I am using are costing about 17 cents/day and are 22%. They are also made using a pressed straw tub making it impossible to reuse it because they eat the tub and all. I like the meal idea better but will only be another couple of weeks. How long does it store? Next year I will get it done ahead.

I have kept a bit over the summer. The reason it's not pellets is the high salt level would burn out the dies and possibly the whole mill.

Any sort of tub of trough would work i suppose. We had some half barrel tubs as most of the lighter tubs break up or blow away.

When I fed it I fed it in those half barrel tubs too-my horses liked to play in it for some reason. How often did you feed it BMR.

Ideal would be to have them consume 1lb/ hd/day. I try and put out 3 or 4 days worth at a time but it is not an exact science. :D
