High court limits president's appointments power
Politics Video

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday limited the president's power to fill high-level vacancies with temporary appointments, ruling in favor of Senate Republicans in their partisan clash with President Barack Obama.

The high court's first-ever case involving the Constitution's recess appointments clause ended in a unanimous decision holding that Obama's appointments to the National Labor Relations Board in 2012 without Senate confirmation were illegal. Obama invoked the Constitution's provision giving the president the power to make temporary appointments when the Senate is in recess.

It is not often the court is "unanimous"

How could Obama been so wrong,... didn't he teach constitutional law?

Can this decision be appealed? Or just ignored? Will your highest court be accused of playing politics and trying to stop progress? Should be a soap opera named after this administration.

I watched a few minutes of MSNBC's the cycle,.

and one of them actually tried to call this decision partisan..

while the person explaining it was "unanimous" tried to not call him stupid.. I couldn't believe that a person would actually be dumb enough to think a "unanimous" decision is partisan.. let alone believe what he was saying enough to feebly try to defend it.

he was probably a hollywood actor.. as they seem to excel at dumb comments..

Habnut, the Supreme Court is the end of the line. Congress could change the law. Obama and everyone in the world knew those recess appointments were illegal when congress said they were in session (congress has a constitutional mandate to make its own rules of procedure).

The US Supreme Court is mostly disfunctional. If Obama had any merit at all, the left justices like Ginsberg and sotomayer would have held The Party line. Hell, if the left had majority, they would have ruled differently in this case. In the US, the rule of law is dead. FDR stacked the court to get the outcome he wanted when he raised the number of justices so he could appoint a bunch of socialists.

Most cases come down to a partisan vote in the Supreme Court. If you study the context of our constitution, especially the amendments known as "the bill of rights" , everything is about limiting the central government and protecting individual liberty. The 10th amendment sayes "all powers not ceeded to the federal government lie with the states." So almost everything our federal government does except national defense is illegal. A long time ago the Supreme Court ruled that the central government can ignore the 10th amendment because there is a clause directing the federal government to promote commerce. No clause should ever be held to be controlling over a main plank of the constitution.
