So, if you have to run naked to make it rain......

what do you have to do to make it stop for awhile?!?!? We've had plenty, would really like to share with those who need it, but it just seems like it really doesn't want to quit here. We'll get a couple of days with sunshine, then three with rain. Spraying is a challenge, and haying ....... well, it's pretty non-existent. Just when we think we just might be able to start, RAIN! Anybody who has cut, has hay the lovliest shades of brown and black.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, why wouldn't it rain????? It's raining right now! By Saturday, it should be time to turn the taps on again. We've had so much rain, it's running into the pit where the system for our well is, flooding it and burning up the electrical stuff. Now that we've got everything fixed, I have to pump the water out of it twice a day till it finally decides to dry up.

I hear your pain Shelly. Its rediculous now. I've got grass polluting my alfalfa fields thats up over 3 feet tall right now, and I have an ENTIRE 80 acre hay field with at least 1 inch of water, and as much as a foot of water, just laying around. I don't think it'll dry out with that much grass as the wind can't get to it.

I put 100 acres of fresh alfalfa into the ground 2 years ago, got one cut last year, and its completely gone now.

Are you up in that Melfort, Tisdale area? I was just watching the news, and they said around Porcupine Plain nothing has been seeded yet. Tough situation for those folks up there.

We had an order for 350-400 round bales from the local dairy here, but the hay is way past dairy quality now. I suppose they'll go looking to buy from somewhere else now.

They might not Shelly,it was raining in southern saskatchewan last night already. So it might be hard to find excellent dairy quality feed this year.Unless they wait for the second cut,and have it hauled in.That will get expensive though.I also had a buyer for dairy quality hay,but it is looking like i will just have to buy more beef cow's.The weather might smarten up though, and we might get nothing but sunshine from now on.Don't get discouraged yet. :)

Close. I'm in Nipawin. We're actually worse than Melfort or Tisdale, but not _quite_ as bad as Porcupine. We managed to get 65 acres sowed and the neighbor got 22 acres in :) What I get a kick out of is that our completely worthless MLA hasn't said a peep to that Calvert guy. He stopped in Melfort, Tisdale and will be stopping in Porcupine Plain, but he didn't even bother to drive that extra 20 miles to Nipawin.

Its not so much hay that I'm worried about (hell, I'll cut it after freeze up) but rather straw. I've still 50 or so bales left from last year, but its not looking good for this year.

Although we've been having the same kind of rain issue as you Shelly,I just cannot complain about it ..."yet",we had soo many years of drought, that rain still seems heaven sent. The grass is really high, too wet to cut,but man its great to see green ,tall grass :D Canolas even starting to flower, and its at least 4 weeks early!!

we've got a very nice stand of pure alfalfa, just waiting for the weather to clear up so we can cut. In between Saskatoon and PA. We could sell it standing, or baled if someone is interested.

We still make the small bales as well if anyone is interested in hay or straw.

Also have lots of small square grass bales, and should start putting up some more right away as well.
