I'm bettin' on a butcherbird. They impale their prey on a barb or a thorn on a bush. Are they the same thing as a shrike? Kind of a pretty little bird.

I dunno what a loggerhead shrike is....never heard of it......only thing we got down here that is referred to as loggerhead is a big ole nasty turtle that stanks to high heaven and eats all yer fish outta yer tank.

Soapweed, the unlucky fellow on the fence: "Salamander Jerky" for the butcher bird. The Loggerhead Shrike is often called a butcher bird. They are about 7 inches long, seem to look a little squatty. They are blueish gray above with white undersides,a black tail and wing tips, they have a thick hooked bill and somewhat large head. commonly seen here sitting on the electric lines near roadside in mid summer. I think they pick up grasshoppers on the road.
