Sun came out for awhile today- got to 45- and altho it was a bitter south wind it was warm enough to unpack my camera as I was checking cows....
Calves better enjoy it- as they've got another storm warning out for Sunday....

The little Juanadamere 5U heifer calf...She looks a lot better than 3 weeks ago when I found her in a snowbank...

This calf wouldn't hold still for me- but he's going to be like many calves in this area this year- with "character"- since he's lost his eartag since his ears froze off...

The twins- 42A and 42B, that I have corraled for a few more days with their momma...

On my rounds- I saw this old cow off in the distance with her tailup...I was going to ride over and pull a Soapweed and take a picture of her calving- but by the time I got there- she had the calf- and baby was already trying to get her feet under her...(Love those easy calving type bulls :) ).....An 85 lb heifer calf....

Nice calves, OT. That bag is a little suspect.

Yep- she almost didn't stick around after last year- was marked in the book, but somehow we missed her...Probably her last calf...Its what happens when you stack year after year of bigger better faster on top of each other (878 X Blockbuster X Conveyor)...Most of the same bloodline ones are already gone-some that didn't breed back after their first calf....
Both I and the neighbor had a trainwreck when we bred Conveyor daughters to Blockbuster--the biggest share were gone in 3 years..

Nice pictures, Oldtimer. This city slicker sure does enjoy all of the "baby pictures" everyone has been posting :D

Your cattle look great :D. I'm glad to see you've got dry ground for those calves. That bag may not be the best, but I'll bet that vigorous, smart calf got it all figured out .

WR--She apparently got it figured out as she had a full tummy this morning....My son says thats how she slipped by us culling her last year- even tho I had her bag marked in the book- as she had a big big steer calf and I figured as long as she could keep doing that she got to stay...But I won't keep a bad bagged cow you have to mess with getting the calf to suck...

FH- the cows actually look better than what I'd expect with as tough of winter we've had- not an overabundance of hay- or grass they could get to- and with some of the hay being nothing more than swampgrass and some 2-3 years old...
They're a little rougher haired than some years- but I put that to the cold- and the fact they need to be poured again since they went chatting over the fence with the neighbors cows after we'd poured ours- but before they poured theirs  But I'll do that when I move them out to pasture- as I hate to jostle them around during calving time...

But the way these cold fronts- and storms keep coming thru tho- we might not see green grass til June...But at least with the moisture we've had- it should be there this year...

That's exactly what I do with them too .

Cow's and calves look real good.

That bad bag cow could stay here as long as she keep's her calf going without help. We've got one cow here with a bad bag like that only another cow stepped on it a few year ago and tore off one tit. She can raise a better calf on 3 quarter's than most do on 4.

I gotta say I sure envy you your dry ground. Sure makes a person feel alot better about things when he knows the little buggers will have something decent to lay on when they hit the ground.

The youngest Granddaughters were out to the house to meet Dexter...Dexter is the name the older grandkids gave to the bum twin I found wandering around- and which has become a bottle baby...

Pij thinks he's nice and soft...
