In the Last picture I see te Creep feeders in the background. My guess is that you are on a CHS Program. How is that working and how are you using it?

I have a friend that is a super tight wad but uses it to supplement cows when grass dries up late summer and fall,

Herefords make for some great pictures,

You have to look far and wide to find a poor 8020 they are cowmakers-Emily's 4H steer off him is gaining 3.5/lbs a day so that side isn't all bad either. I've got about 50 straws of him left in the tank. What is his availability stateside.

I could buy it at $25 per straw. I have no idea how much they have stored up on him though. He lived to be pretty old so it could be quite a bit.

Thanks all :)

PPRM - we weaned our light calves last year and used the feeders for that...may start weaning and preconditioning all the calves. We're happy with the CHS products.

NR - Don Schaefer works for Harrells now so that is where we got the semen, don't know how much he has though.

Hooks - when the calves are real hairy it's easier to clip the area before branding.

I know CHS has several programs. My friend uses a ration with a limiter when the grass dries up. It is for his cows. I have never heard of anyone not happy with the results once into one of those programs.

I think early weaning and helping the calves has a lot of merit. Most people don't realize thier calves aren't gaining in Late Summer until they do something to help them,

I smile as I see the Snow in the Mountains. What isn't planted to wheat or corn might make a pretty good haycrop this year....Maybe there will be enough rained on hay the dairymen will let us have some, LOL,
