Nice country-nice cattle. One question, why the difference in location of the brand (yearlings on rib-cage, calves on hip)?

The yearling bulls were purchased, and the original owner's brand is on the left hip. Consequently, our brand was put on the rib to avoid confusion. All of our home-raised cattle get the brand on the hip.

Just a question, there's one photo titled "little boy calves" Do ya'll sort them out at branding and put the heifer calves and their mama's in seperate pastures as the "lil boy calves" and their mama's? I was sittin here lookin at that and thought to myself, that'd make sortin a lot easier at sellin time...bring in all the mama's with steer calves.....then later all the one's with heifer calves.

Yes, all of those calves in that pasture are steer calves. It does make it easier at selling time.

Hey Soapweed looks like your grass is holding up pretty good, we could sure use some moisture as we are lossing ground rather quickly just hoping to make it to Oct. Hay season is going to be short lived as the grass is not coming on this year, hope to gather enough to get through the winter with a couple of pieces of low ground

NICE as usual, Soapweed.

What is the "just one of the boys", bull with the blue eartag.
WOOO HOOO
He is really fancy!!!

Nice long calves, too.

We always sort our heifers from our steers too. But this year we
have so few steers it doesn't matter much!

He is one of the 30 bulls I got from a friend. There were over 70 bulls to pick from. I hauled ol' Goose up the day I chose the bulls. It was kind of fun. I would pick out a bull, and drive him into a different corral. After picking 30, I also got out one extra bull. He was the "spare" in case anything didn't pass the fertility test. He was needed, as one didn't pass. I also gave them my electric branding iron, and they branded the bulls when they fertility checked. This saved quite a little hassle for us when we got the bulls home, and we didn't have to run them through the chute again. I am really happy with the bulls, as they look to be meat-making machines.

Are they straightbred Angus or crossed a little with something?

I'd be happy with them too!!

They are mostly Angus, but there could be just a smidge of Simmental, Gelbvieh, or even Chianina way back. I'm not too worried if there is.
