Some photos of our cows and pastures in Western SD

Here are some photos I took the other day while we were moving some pairs. The grass is better than I have ever seen. As we were riding along, the needle grass rubbed against our stirrups. Cows are fat and happy.

NIce pics. Beautiful country for cows.

What are those white buildings/structures on the far horizon in the first pic? Is that New York City?

It may be LA since we are looking West

It is actually a big tin shed several miles away that was once used for a dairy, but sits empty now.

Looks good. Our grass looks about that tall, but it's browner than yours. Lot of japanese chess in ours. Wish I could find somebody to hay it. It would make better hay than pasture and then the cows could eat the aftermath and really do better.

It is a banner year here for needle grass and western wheat grass. We ussually don't hardly have any western, but conditions must have been right for it this year. I also found some cow peas growing. Don't see those very often either.

I gues I am not sure what Japanese chess is???

Good looking cattle and country, BRG. Thanks for the pictures.

Enjoyed the pictures....looks ideal for cattle and ATVs. :D :D

But the ATVs squash the grass. I must admit I've somewhat enjoyed rodding back and forth to the hayfield on our four-wheeler. I can see how wrecks happen though, as I was going too fast this afternoon down our gravel road and missed a curve. Had to bounce along on the grass for a bit, and now I'm driving more carefully. :?

It may be hard to admit, but you've got the bug, and the Mule's in for some serious R and R.

i just bragged on your mule and then you admit to riding one of those noisy darn go carts.whats the world coming to?

They sure work slick for running in the horses, but I wouldn't want to subject our cattle to being herded with them. Herded is probably not the right word. "Choused" comes to mind. :)

Was picking up truck yesateday at the Dodge dealers-he sells Yamaha ATV's too-they have a four seater-two plus two-with a diesel motor and a dump box-only $17,000-it would be smooth to drive but awful hard to get out of a muskkeg. ATV's are made for fencing and hauling recently deceased moose and bears out of the big woods.

Cal: I got such a laugh out of your "horse" that you call Trigger, standing and waiting patiently etc, that I started to call my "horse" Trigger too. Seems to fit. It's never had a name before. Thanks for your sense of humor and giving my atv a name. Still having trouble getting Trigger to jump in the back of a trailer though. :D
